The right way to do it (check local codes, I'm not a professional, etc.) is to have a male outlet on one end, female (normal) outlet on the other end, romex in between. That way the wire actually running in the walls is the correct kind. There is a legit reason why you can't have regular power cords running through walls. I personally used this setup to power a ceiling mounted projector via a UPS that was in a closet. Short (and decent gauge) extension cord running from the UPS to the male outlet, wall mounted receptacle that the projector plugged into. Worked great, no need for a heavy UPS to be mounted next to the projector possibly falling on someone's head causing severe trauma.
But in actuality it's beyond a pain to set up and the quality of the plastic shows every scuff mark.
