I've been waiting for this one because it has the larger sensor, better low light performance, better audio, longer battery, new AI chips for faster processing, and it can record both flat and 360 mode at the same time which the X4 couldn't. I don't have an X4 because I was worried about the lens getting scratched and not being replaceable, but the X5 has replaceable lenses now too so I placed the order.
Best comparison review I've found. Tempting to upgrade, price obviously is the barrier

What a goofy comment, not everybody has a secondary camera like you

What do you guys use your 360 cameras for out of curiosity? I've tried them in the past and I just don't like the 360 nature

Skiing, hiking, sporting events...

thought about retrofitting it onto my dog's harness so I could get video of him when he gets the zoomies lol... with my luck he would run under a table and break it

I found the 360 very nice as a "no focus needed" recording where I'd rather my eyes be focused on an event (like a kid's concert). Hold the camera in a general area/line of sight and only worry about framing during the edit.

I grabbed the x4 $400 deal but never opened it just in case a better deal popped up. It's probably worth the extra $150 to me to return the x4 and get the x5 for all the reasons mentioned. Scratching the lens just once on the x4 would entirely justify spending more on the x5.

Same here ...can we return electronics beyond 90 days to Costco

Replaceable lenses are a big part of it I know. Here's a comparison video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJRYN9Ntna0
Replace-able lenses are a huge selling point. All of the "lens protectors" i've seen have reduced image quality and added flaring (which looks bad where the stitch lines are at). $29 for replacement lenses are a great price.

I have the RS 1 Inch and one of the scary things with it are knowing that if the lens gets scratched or damaged, any little bit is incredibly visible and annoying to see in videos. I'm actually surprised the replacement lenses are as cheap as they are, considering how much they could be selling them for,.

This is the selling point for me also. I originally bought it thinking they would be cool to look at in VR... but never used it for that. Like you said, it's great to just have it sticking up somewhere and be able to edit/frame out a video quickly after the fact. Particularly useful for movement where you can attach it to a stick and basically move around with it and then re-frame it later and add neat effects

I didn't realize it was 4 months ago... and I'm also not familiar with Costco return policy. I thought they accept all returns for any reason, but maybe that policy changed. Figured I'd be good to go with having not opened the product yet. I've never actually returned a thing to Costco (I generally have done so much research that I'm not needing to return a thing).

For several years now they have exceptions to the lifetime return policy. Electronics and major appliances are limited to 90 days. If you really want to get this new camera I'd sell your unopened one ASAP.

I cannot say 100% definitively; however, one of the reviewers mentioned that the x5 is slightly bigger. He specifically called out the dive case as something you will need to buy again.

On their website, it also calls out that the x5 dive case does not create this bubble distortion. This sort of confirms it for me.

As a side note, since you have the dive case, how is the x4 when diving snorkeling outside of the case? I've had dive cases for Yi, GoPro, Sony's, etc and my biggest issue with them was after around 30" they stopped working. I learned quickly to just hit record at higher depths and edit later. Oh, and add in moister tabs to keep out fog.

Google street view photography and trail mapping. Did my first route earlier this year at Zion National Park with the X4. Came out amazing.
