Wow this is a great deal for a kids computer. Only thing you need to be careful of is the GPU and the pcie 3.0 you need to make sure you have at least 8 lanes on your GPU. Some budget gpus skimped on the lanes and it will hurt performance in this system.

Wow this is a great deal for a kids computer. Only thing you need to be careful of is the GPU and the pcie 3.0 you need to make sure you have at least 8 lanes on your GPU. Some budget gpus skimped on the lanes and it will hurt performance in this system.

I know they're not made anymore but an R5 5600 or equivalent CPU would definitely tempt me to jump on this. They were $100 + $60-70 for the MB + $50 or so for the RAM. Wish a budget AM5 combo was out there instead!
The cpu is roughly equivalent to an R5 3600 (which I own actually). While the 4060 is a pretty weak GPU, I'd consider pairing with at least something like an R5 5600 (if on AM4) or an R5 7600 (if on AM5).
Tell us the games they play and we can help narrow it down.
Minecraft, TF2 and ultrakill, but I'm sure the list will quickly expand. I can find benchmark, wonder about compatibility with this combo. Also, last PC i built was in 2011, so I'm not sure if extra components are needed (fans?)
Thanks for the iGPU heads up. Shame it's missing - neighbor kid was looking to build but only has a $300 budget.
No iGPU kills my plan to go with this setup.😔
