How does this compare to the first game? I'm trying to play through it right now and the combat when you're swarmed is driving me insane.. Do I need to play the first one to enjoy this one?

Got over 100 hours and continue to be surprised. Not only a great open world RPG, it's a freakin' history lesson. I've just learned the detailed process of mining, smelting and refining silver in the 15th century. And that's a good thing!

I never beat the first one, and I love this one. The combat, while still no joke, is much improved. So far, this is easily the front runner for Game of the Year.
