This seems like a waste that such a large device displays the gameplay area so small. A vast majority of the screen seems needlessly devoted to a static background . Without changing the LCD size they could have easily increased the gameplay area by 40-50% just by moving the hud slightly.

*Note, this isn't a rom of Tetris, therefore trying to stay true to an original version. This game is allegedly a purpose built application for this specific device.....in my opinion this design choice was very poorly made.

That being said, it's $12 and cute.

I don't know much about the My Arcade series but, yeah, the screens should be bigger, LCDs are cheap enough it could at least be 1" larger. It looks like the same size screen on their little handheld one. And it should definitely be the Atari arcade version. I never actually saw one in any arcades in my area, though we were all about Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat so I could have overlooked it, but I was also a big Tetris fan, so I doubt it. Looking at feeBay I see 2 Atari 1988 arcade machines and one has the ridiculously huge frame around a small screen and the other one only has smaller side panels for the instructions. It looks like they are both official variants (along with the tabletop version!) https://www.arcade-museum.com/Videogame/tetris , so technically it does match at least one official version.

For the cheap price I wonder how hard it would be to hack it into proper arcade Tetris and put new stickers on it. Probably not worth the effort, but if you're a collector of this size at least it would match (I saw a Frogger while I was researching this and it's a way better match than this is). This custom version has an interesting remix of the theme and the Hold and Ghost features make it feel more like a The Grand Master machine for beginners.

Frankly think the screen size is okay, just they have the play area as a tiny part of the actual LCD. That seems dumb to me. Have the game area take up the entire vertical space of the LCD and just have sides be part of the HUD / background.

Speaking of hacking, I was wondering if this was hackable myself, perhaps loading different ROM's on it. That might open up a range of possibilities.
