Looks like an okay deal but that adapter case is a design disaster. It's huge compared to other adapters with a ton of wasted space. There is no direct contact to the metal shell, which means it's going to get hot inside. This may have thermal problems. It has so much wasted space inside that you can, or have to, add a heat spreader. Four hex screws required, so forget about quick swapping of the drive.

Amazon review confirms RTL9210B-CG inside.

Yep drive cooker enclosure, do not buy for any hot ssd.

but since its got sata support, its good for trouble shooting that as many n100 mini pc's still use those things.

I didn't realize that SSD's put out enough heat to need a heat sync.

Whoa... one of my first HDD enclosures (2.5" PATA 7200rpm drive) I think was an Orico back around... uhm...2002 or about. Loved that thing.

It has a heatsink so there's no open air to cook a SSD unless pieces are missing out the box. Also, deal expired/out of stock.

They definitely do, and the situation only gets worse when you have a high-performance machine with godawful thermal management. Any manufacturer worth a damn includes thermal pads and heat spreaders; it's not a matter of the drive just up and dying, it's a matter of getting 2 years vs. 5 years out of the component.

I stopped buying anything from Newegg long time ago, unless you are ok to lose money and time in the case of bad item.

Yea drives can get cooking even at this gimped speed when doing large sustained writes, the controller especially on cheap drives will torch themselves 70c+, relying on throttling is just asking for failure.

pci-e 5 drives can require large heatsinks even in pcs.

I would update to the latest firmware available for the RTL9210B-CG chipset, since older versions may have stability issues which have been resolved in newer firmwares. https://www.station-drivers.com/i...ang,en-gb/
As of this writing, the latest firmware is: Realtek RTL9210(B) NVMe/USB 3.1 Controller firmware Version 1.34.29.011325 Submitted April 15, 2025 https://www.station-drivers.com/i...ang,en-gb/
