Various Digital Retailers have Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity (eBook) by Peter Attia MD with Bill Gifford on sale for $2.99.

Thanks to Deal Hunter TattyBear for finding this deal.

Available from:About this Book:
  • #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER: A groundbreaking manifesto on living better and longer that challenges the conventional medical thinking on aging and reveals a new approach to preventing chronic disease and extending long-term health, from a visionary physician and leading longevity expert
  • "One of the most important books you'll ever read."—Steven D. Levitt, New York Times bestselling author of Freakonomics
  • Wouldn't you like to live longer? And better? In this operating manual for longevity, Dr. Peter Attia draws on the latest science to deliver innovative nutritional interventions, techniques for optimizing exercise and sleep, and tools for addressing emotional and mental health.
  • For all its successes, mainstream medicine has failed to make much progress against the diseases of aging that kill most people: heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and type 2 diabetes. Too often, it intervenes with treatments too late to help, prolonging lifespan at the expense of healthspan, or quality of life. Dr. Attia believes we must replace this outdated framework with a personalized, proactive strategy for longevity, one where we take action now, rather than waiting.
  • This is not "biohacking," it's science: a well-founded strategic and tactical approach to extending lifespan while also improving our physical, cognitive, and emotional health. Dr. Attia's aim is less to tell you what to do and more to help you learn how to think about long-term health, in order to create the best plan for you as an individual. In Outlive, readers will discover:
    • Why the cholesterol test at your annual physical doesn't tell you enough about your actual risk of dying from a heart attack.
    • That you may already suffer from an extremely common yet underdiagnosed liver condition that could be a precursor to the chronic diseases of aging.
    • Why exercise is the most potent pro-longevity "drug"—and how to begin training for the "Centenarian Decathlon."
    • Why you should forget about diets, and focus instead on nutritional biochemistry, using technology and data to personalize your eating pattern.
    • Why striving for physical health and longevity, but ignoring emotional health, could be the ultimate curse of all.
  • Aging and longevity are far more malleable than we think; our fate is not set in stone. With the right roadmap, you can plot a different path for your life, one that lets you outlive your genes to make each decade better than the one before.

Highly recommend this book. Changed my habits for over a year now. Two main points to the book. 1. there are 4 main things that kill most of us and there are things we can do to minimize the risk (exercise, lose weight, lower cholesterol, etc). 2. It doesn't matter if you live an extra 10 years if you can't walk, climb stairs, etc. so you should build muscle to do the things you want to do if you make it to 80.

You can find free summaries online but reading the book was better in my opinion.
Seeing the cynical comments here are really depressing because Attia is genuinely one of the best communicators of medical science I've ever come across. He actually discusses the nuances of everything, how to interpret studies, the limitations of scientific research, etc. And he's one of the few "podcast" types who actually take the time to disclose their conflicts of interest.
One Sunday in church, Pastor's sermon was about forgiveness. He asked everyone in the church to stand up. Then he asked those who had any enemies to sit down. Everyone sat down but one very old woman.

"You have no enemies at all?" asked Pastor.

"Not a single one," she answered, nodding her agreement.

"Please, come up here and tell everyone how you reached such a great age without having any enemies," said Pastor. A deacon accompanied the elderly woman to the pulpit and everyone in church applauded as she slowly made her way up the steps. Pastor adjusted the microphone.

"You must have done a lot of forgiving," said Pastor. "Please, tell us your secret."

The old lady smiled beatifically.

"I outlived the bitches," she said.

Quote from arielaco :
You may find misinformation here. A high-protein diet is unhealthy at best, and at worst, it wastes energy, money, and years of life, as it forces the body to work hard to digest the protein and then eliminate it through urine. If we're talking about animal protein, it's linked to many diseases such as diabetes, heart attacks, Alzheimer's, and cancer. Furthermore, it's not efficient at all; all protein comes from plants; animals are intermediaries, adding saturated fats, antibiotics, and human-like hormones. You can read it to understand the "unscientific" arguments, but they're more convenient, as they fit with what we've been taught, unaware that they lead us to die from preventable diseases. The normal thing is to die from eating badly for several years, if not your whole life, if you don't get hit by a train first. Avoid nutrinfluencers
Aptly titled post. "You may find misinformation here..."
To each her own, but I've never been healthier per the mirror, my family, my friends, and my doctor. I avoid highly processed foods in the pantry. I've sustained this without much effort for over ten years now. And I do it by eating meat. Doesn't work for you? Fine. But to call my diet "unhealthy at best" is painting with a very wide brush.

Quote from JeffMerr :
Peter Attia is a charlatan and a lot of his advice is not based on solid evidence/research. 12 supplements daily is not going to extend your lifespan.
He does not push supplements at all. Peter Attia emphasizes that exercise is fundamental for longevity, and supplements should be considered a secondary strategy, not a replacement for it. He suggests that one should prioritize exercise and overall lifestyle before focusing heavily on supplements. He tells his patients don't even ask about supplements if you do not have a solid fitness habit.
Great book that every 25-75 person should read if you want to age well.
