You want a 990 Pro for PS5 - suggested speeds are 7,500 MB/s for PS5. The 990 EVO is only 5,000 MB/s.
This drive will work for extra storage for older, less graphically impressive games. I wouldn't recommend you load newer, PS5-only games on it.

Shouldn't you get the 990 EVO Plus, instead of this 990 EVO? I think the price is very close between the two, but the 990 EVO Plus is newer and more efficient with better performance.

The plus is back in stock for 1tb, so I'd get that for a few extra bucks. The 4tb is now oos.

I guess it's a "check frequently" situation, which I really don't understand as they are the supplier of these things - shouldn't they know how many they have now or in the near future?? Why does availability fluctuate so much for a good (but not ridiculous instant sell out) price?

FYI, unlike previous EVO iterations (like the 970 EVO), the 990 EVO and 990 EVO Plus are both DRAM-less drives.

While there may be supply chain/tariff issues, I think the most obvious reason is if the availability fluctuates then they only have to sell a certain number at the lower price, all the while driving up FOMO desire, possibly tempting people to snatch them at a non-sale price because the alternative is the much more expensive 9100 series gen5 drives.

Evo Plus is fine, especially if you can get it cheaper than this.
I have a 990 Evo Plus in my PS5 and my gaming PC, zero issues and the performance is faster than with the stock SSD.

This has a 600TBW (terabytes written) warranty, not 1200TBW.

The 2TB model has the 1200TBW warranty.

No, having DRAM would be preferable. However, most people will never notice a difference between a drive with DRAM and one that uses HMB (like this drive).
