I think one of the reasons why a double hose is not that great at humidity is because it's bringing more inside the house with the extra intake hose. Not a bad design, but these portables are NOT made to reduce humidity because they don't have the capacity to store it, so manufacturers actually don't want to remove humidity with portables. A window unit does much more in terms of humidity than a portable for that reason. Also, some portables also exhaust some humidity with heat, so that just increases your electric bill. Overall, portables are not that great because they have so many limitations compared to window and split units.
