I've read this. I will say that the principles in this book are useful and have utilized them at times in meetings. The skills seem simple enough, but in real situations it feels awkward at first as it goes against your desire/human nature to "fill the space." It takes practice, which almost has to be in real-time trial and error. Initially I was in situations where after the fact I'm like, "dang, I should have..." If you are someone that has meetings where you are regularly advocating or that can be contentious, it is quite useful. I could see where these skills would be useful in sales and customer service/ service recovery as well.
Tell you what, price it at .99 cents, and you got yourself a deal.
Apparently I "purchased" this on May 17, 2017 (must have found it free through a Slickdeal!) but I still haven't read it!

Read around 50 pages and skimmed the rest. The book isn't worth $2.
3/4 of the book is bs with the remainder useful tips, which from the author's account mirrors most hostage negotiations.
Honestly I could probably have a discussion with chatgpt or have it roleplay negotiations and I would learn more.
Spot on. The third hostage story into it and my interest fell off a cliff. I was trying to reconcile against my business world experiences, and I kept thinking "… what the ….?"

Had a recent negotiation with a prospective tenant for a retail space. They hired an agent to negotiate. We were ready to make a deal. He kept pushing and pushing for more and more. He kept moving the goalposts. We went with somebody else, and he lost the deal for his clients. The clients called me the next day, as they had been ready to get moving immediately. Oh well.

Playing hardball sometimes means striking out and having people unwilling to work with you ever again.

Really great book, read it twice!
Agreed! It's a great book and fun to read. I ended up running a Lunch & Learn workshop at work and received a lot of praise and good feedback.

Very rarely do I buy an e-book twice, which I did today with this one. (I also bought it as a gift for a relative.) I had a professor in an MBA class speak highly of this book.

I bought this same ebook back in April of 2022 from Chirp based on a slickdeal when it was on sale for $2. Guess I'll buy it on the Google Play store since I have some leftover credits that will expire soon.
