I believe this has the heat function which the U shaped model does not.

Great price on a 12K BTU inverter AC. I wish it had the "Flash Cool" function though.

Is the fan easier to clean than the U-shaped model?

Great deal for a powerful A/C that has an Inverter and quiet. Add the 3-year protection plan for only $30.

For a horizontal slider window, this may be easier to install than a Midea U-shaped window AC:

Much appreciated. I was wondering how I would install an AC unit in my tall horizontal window. Now I know Smilie

Performance wise (15.0 SEER), both are the same:

This box shaped unit:
https://www.energystar.gov/produc...ls/3354618

U-Shape:
https://www.energystar.gov/produc...ls/2669189

The U features "MSHIELD AIR IONIZER TECHNOLOGY- This unit contains MShield Air Ionizer Technology which can help to eliminate odors, smoke, and gases in the air."
For vertical sliding windows, it allows a larger view and possible window opening.

For horizontal sliding windows, a conventional window AC box may be easier to install.

Possible mold issues on the fan have been reported on the U (may also be present on this unit, but it's likely an issue for all window ACs). One user on the U shaped thread #65 proposes this solution (also likely applicable to all window ACs):

So does this give you 5 years of warranty with that purchase?

I have a situation where I need less current draw and do not need the 12k BTU cooling capacity. The 8k BTU model is the same price. - https://www.samsclub.com/p/midea-...P990389856.

I believe the u-shape model is 32db noise wise, and this unit is 45 dBA which is a huge difference. But this is cheaper…
