Who cares about which company 'beat' which one, and who is keeping count?

That was a helpful comment (that you replied to).. There was no need to bring up the perceived 'console wars'.

But since you've already broached that topic, you really need to keep things in perspective. The console wars are practically dead. It's not symmetrical competition any more like it was a few generations ago.

Nintendo is playing to its own beat, and doesn't care about matching conventional generations. And Microsoft is the biggest game publisher now — they publish 11 of the 20 most selling video game franchises. So they don't care two hoots where you play their game, as long as you do.

And since you think Sony 'won' — Sony does seem to be doing better than XBox, but make no mistake; both brands are feeling an existential crisis just the same. Console sales overall are flat year over year and by some accounts are shrinking. The only segment that's growing (and significant so) is PC gaming. It won't take much to disrupt the console segment (say, Valve gets its Steam machine concept right).

Point is - enjoy what you like. Don't worry about where it stands in the market.

Quote from Dajefe70 :
Agreed, it's no longer a console war, gamers are a bit more united these days. It's more like gamer vs. publishers now, trying to prevent $80 from becoming the new price standards as well as unfair practices for gamers (looking at you Sony) and failure to do anything amazing with owned franchises (looking at you Microsoft). And it's not going well as more publishers are announcing these game hikes as well.
"unfair practices for gamers (looking at you Sony)"
Funny that Xbox started the paid internet deal and announced they're raising their game prices to $80, but somehow Sony catches the hate
