Other than the transmitter part, which is admittedly cool for being able to have multiple units paired to a single output device, the Monster wearable speakers have been around for a few years now and I love them. They are pretty much a consistent $60 on Amazon (pretty much a guaranteed $40 coupon or $40 off "sale" price). They used to go on sale for much less with lightning deals and whatnot where you could get them for ~$30 or so but I haven't seen one of those deals in a while (I think they gained product sale traction and didn't need to move units as badly).

If you have never worn a neck speaker, it is difficult to really explain the experience. They are extremely immersive and having upward facing speakers a few inches under your ears really does make the sound feel like it is coming from around you. Wearing them around, it becomes easy to forget about them altogether because they are on your shoulders and not your head/ears. I've had multiple friends and family buy them after trying mine. Heck, my mom is in her 70's and bought a pair on sale and she loved them so much that when I sent her a link to the 'petite' model they released (just a little thinner) and had on sale, she bought those too lol.

I like that the Panasonic model comes with the transmitter but you can also buy devices that do this and pair to any Bluetooth headphones/speakers to achieve the same result. Wal-Mart actually had one made by Monster on clearance in my local store about a month ago for maybe $12 marked down from $40. I think it was capable to connecting to at least 2 personal listening devices (probably just like the Panasonic and for the same purpose).

Bugani also makes a wearable speaker and it sounds very good as well but charges via micro USB and isn't as premium of materials as the Monster wearable. I ultimately sent that one back.

Another surprising outcome of the Monster wearable was call quality. Again, without experiencing it yourself, it really is difficult to describe what using these devices is like. I was surprised at just how clearly phone calls came through and even more shocked when I asked others if I sounded strange on their end to which they said I was crystal clear (you never know what kind of mic these products put in and I didn't want people to have to talk to me sounding like I was in a tin can). I would use the Monster wearable over my hands free car system for phone calls any day of the week. It is VASTLY superior by way of call quality on both ends of the line.

The biggest caveat is that if you are trying to use these while doing any type of active work like cleaning or something that requires you to reach up, you can forget they are there and they may fall off. That being said, Monster wearable have been around long enough that there are some 3rd party products. One of them is a stretch sleeve that goes on both sides and has a snap connect in the front so it won't fall off. I picked up one of those and it is nice to have piece of mind considering I accident dropped mine about 8 feet off of a ladder into concrete once when I forgot I was wearing them. They were, luckily/somehow, perfectly fine but I figured I should just order the sleeve lol.

Here is the link to the Monster Boomerang that I have. I see it now has a, "frequently returned" status on Amazon which is surprising. I ordered several of them and never heard any of the friends or family that use them say anything about having issues so I'm not sure why. It is definitely a niche product and not something I would wear to the store or on a plane. For media, music, around the house, and in the car, these things are fantastic. Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps. If anyone has first hand experience with the Panasonic, I would be interested to hear what they think.

I read the Amazon reviews, and the problem with the Monsters seems to be a bass-limiting function. A limiter like this is designed to reduce or eliminate the bass sounds going to the speaker, because speakers this small cannot produce deep bass. But in the process, Monster has made it so the entire audio range is reduced in volume when there is a lot of bass. The problem is when the bass stops, the volume increases again, so you get what one review called "a roller-coaster of sound."

Interesting. I'm about to grab mine and play a bit. I don't recall noting that aspect of it but I also wonder if it isn't something they changed up with the product at some point after I got mine. My friends/family for theirs shortly after me and I've had mine for probably ~4 years now. I can't imagine why they would do something like that (if they did) because one of the first things people who have tried it took note of is the bass. If obviously isn't deep bass or anything but it is more of the fact that you get the sensation of the kinetic energy on your shoulders that comes when the bass does hit.

I am going to play with my custom EQ I have setup through my phone and Bluetooth settings specific for my pair as well. Who knows. Maybe I never noticed an issue because I set the EQ a certain way. I'll play around and update.

Just to follow up on this, I did listen to some music and watched some videos to see if I can hear what was being referred to (I'm familiar with it as it is a common enough way that smaller or cheaper Bluetooth speakers are set up to work and I'm not a fan of it either). I couldn't perceive any changes in volume when the bass hit and I tried to listen for it carefully. I really am curious if it is a feature that was changed or if they sourced them from another manufacturing location. I really hope that isn't a consistently new feature because it would be annoying for me as well

Is it comfy enough to use for more than an hour? It looks like the neck will hurt.

You won't notice it. You'll appreciated this over the headphones

I'm getting the impression the Bluetooth is only for the basic Bluetooth calling feature, but not any recent kind of Bluetooth function that transmits audio in general right?

I'd be all over this if it did do Bluetooth audio also, other than just for calls. Seems there'd be a lot of reliability on connecting to each device via headphone jack, which wouldn't be an issue if just used for one main receiver

Are you referring to the Panasonic or the Monster? Both seem to be capable of connecting to an audio source via Bluetooth.

I can't comment on these Panasonic neck speakers, but I love my Sony SRS-NB10 neck speakers. Before my Sony set, I had some cheapy $30 Bluewave set that also had retractable wired buds. I was a big fan of LG tones with this retractable buds. However, with my Bluewave, I found myself using the buds less and less. Sure it's convenient on occasion, but only for audio privacy mostly. That's when I decided to go full neck speakers with the Sony and it's really hard going back to putting things in your ears.

I'm considering these Panasonics for my hard of hearing mother who would no longer need to blast the tv volume.

I can't speak to the Panasonic listed here but the Bugani, Monster, and JBL models of wearable speakers I've tested were very comfortable. Because they rest on your shoulders, you don't experience fatigue from the weight or discomfort from long periods of wearing like many people get with head-worn devices. One thing I will note is that I tend to wear mine while I'm moving around the house, cleaning, etc. Before I bought the sleeves with front snaps for my Monster Boomerang, I think I would keep my shoulders more tense because I was paranoid I would forget about them and reach up/bend over for something and have them fall off. I never worry about them while sitting or driving. I've walked into work with them on before and forgot I was wearing them lol. I won't lie and say this type of product is for everyone but I've only had one person who hated the experience and that was my oldest brother. He ordered a pair based on my recommendation but said it wasn't what he needed because he wanted to watch content without disturbing others around him. Ultimately, that is the major drawback of these products. If you think you will play content and nobody will ever hear it, that's just not going to be reality. You can turn them down and the sound won't be clearly heard but may still be audible in a more quiet setting. Speaking for the Monster Boomerang, I would NEVER wear them at full volume because it equates to wearing a small Bluetooth speaker on your shoulders. To clarify, I can set these on a counter or table and turn the volume up and they will fill the room with sound like a small speaker. Trying to crank the volume while wearing them would be asking for hearing damage lol

I've wanted to play with the Sony and Bose wearables but just couldn't find a good enough deal to justify the test. I would hope that the premium pricing would mean a higher quality experience. I've just been so happy with my Monster Boomerang that I can't imagine spending that much more could negate the law of diminishing returns enough for it. Maybe I'll find a killer deal on them at some point and upgrade!

You and I agree about the Monster Boomerang. I tried the Bugani and returned it, the Monster version just sounded better & had more volume - hopefully when I need to replace it (I've had mine since end of 2020) they will still be the same quality. My only complaint is the buttons need to be raised up more/easier to use, they're flat & hard to push.
