As a former chef and a smashburger connoisseur, I will say the shape of the press is more of an asset than the weight/brand.

I was gifted this one several years ago and it's the only press I use. Has a lot of weight, and the circular shape helps press your burger balls into nice thin patties.

(Protip: cover your burger with a small sheet of parchment paper to prevent your press from sticking to the meat)
So I own this one, it's extremely well-built, but I definitely bought it for the wrong reason. I thought I could use it for smashburgers, but it's honestly way too large and the ridges make it really ineffective for that use. This is NOT a fault of the tool, it's one nice piece of equipment, but it's really for searing steaks, making paninis, maybe even making large quesadillas.
Ended up going with a generic, flat, circular press on Amazon and it's been fantastic.
I'm tellin' ya...if you want paper thin patties that get nice and crispy- that's the one you want

Bacon doesn't need a press- if it's curling up it means there's too much heat. Add a ladle of water to the top of your bacon to render the fat. Once it evaporates the melted fat will fry the remaining meat.

A press is a press, It's just a weight. Better to have the extra weight than not.

I have a lodge press but don't like the handle or that the screws mount on the press side. No issues so far but this one looks interesting.

Dows anyone know if what they call "heat-resistant" rubber is actually silicone? I'd like to be able to put this in the oven for preheating or re-seasoning.

These work really well on a cruchwrap. If you haven't made one of those in the griddle, what are you waiting for?

Obviously if you're smashing burgers I wouldn't buy the press posted. Most people are going to use a press for mostly chunks of meat, bacon, sandwich. Smashing burgers I'd use a heavy spatula and the buttend of a random kitchen tool. Or the one you posted would be nice but not really needed imo.

The description here doesn't quite match what's on Amazon; there, it says the press has a "Heat Resistant Rubber Handle," and the photo seems to confirm that there's some sort of (presumably insulating) grip covering the handle.
