Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara's older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she'd traveled too far, if there was still a way home.

Top 10 book for me. If you're into twisted families and the story of how a young girl growing up in crazy religious hill family ends up studying her way to the top, this book is for you.
If you're into these kinds of books, I also recommend
"My Fundamentalist Education" by.Christine Rosen and "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance. Though it's unlikely they will hit $2 price on Amazon...
Great book. I pick books at random from my library (without reading summaries or descriptions) and listen to them at work/in the car, and I swear I thought this was a work of fiction for the first half of the book. What a horrible way to be raised. Worth the time to read if only to see how backwards it's still possible to be in modern day America.
