One of my all time favorite games even if I suck at it. If you somehow don't have this already, it's well worth it even at full price. Great soundtrack too.

Mine as well and one of the early roguelikes that still holds up extremely well. The only negative is that the game was never ported to Switch. But I'm sure with the Steam Deck it's probably perfect for it

These developers, mostly 2 man team, followed up FTL with Into the Breach. Both games I would consider S/A+ tier roguelike/lites. Meaning they are up there with games like Binding of Issac, Slay the Spire, Hades, Spelunking, etc.

Such a great game. Really the trick to winning though? Just timing your attacks and power usage spikes as needed... i.e. instead of auto-shooting weapons in an alternating fashion... you just manually let them fully charge, and then do stuff like fire missiles at shields and then immediately follow up with lasers. This way missiles have a chance to immediately disable their shields and you hit them directly with lasers on the hull afterwards.

$4 is steep considering how old it is and at gog (not steam)
But $4 is a steal if you consider the quality of the game
Very, very difficult though. You may not get your first win until 50-100 losses. And may not become an expert at the game until >200 hours.

For more consistency, I would recommend replacing your missile weapons almost immediately when viable. Managing missile resources while reliant on it for damage output early game is setting yourself up for failure.
