Probably not for you then.

These weigh more than a half pound less than their M12 Fuel counterparts too. Think of senior citizens, anyone with wrist issues, getting into ridiculously tight/awkward spaces, or worrying about over driving/stripping fasteners in delicate areas.
This kit is $129 at Northern Tool with coupon code 288398. Minus the drill bits.
I prefer the Fuel set (3497-22) to this set (3494-22) if for nothing other than having the 1/2 chuck on the fuel drill vs the 3/8 on this. I know these are new, so the price is still high, but I would expect these to come down quite a bit. The conversation would be a lot different if these were $100.

Hopefully this will phaseout and replace the non-brushless combo kit at $170. $199 is too close in price to the Fuel combo.

wow - this is super tempting. I am fully in the Ryobi eco system - this would be a nice, big boy set.

He's right. Nothing will drill into concrete as well as a hammer drill with the right bit, except a dedicated SDS rotohammer.

This is the same kit with the addition of either a
Shockwave Impact Drill Set (15-Piece) - $30 value [homedepot.com] 48-89-4670
or
Shockwave Impact Bit Set (45-Piece) - $27 value [homedepot.com] 48-32-4023
for $160.

Subcompact Kit with Impact Drill Set - $160
Subcompact Kit with Impact Drill Set [homedepot.com]

Subcompact Kit with Impact Bit Set - $160
Subcompact Kit with Impact Bit Set [homedepot.com]

The Subcompact Kit contains the following:
  • M12 Subcompact Brushless 3/8" Drill/Driver 3401-22

Interesting, I clicked on it and it says 143.10. Does it include my Vet discount?

my problem is that there are some useful ryobi tools that just aren't available as battery powered variants on other platforms. I think milwaukee comes the closest for those odd and ends things (like the hot glue gun, hot air gun, cordless dremel, inverter, inflator/deflator) soo soo many tools Frown

Northern Tools gives you the $149 ratchet free with the $229 Fuel M12 combo. For whatever reason you can't use any coupons. It takes away the ratchet. https://www.northerntool.com/prod...-22-112768

The fine print on the actual Northern Tool coupons (not just the code that was shared online) excludes use with other promotions like the free tool one.

Big difference is this subcompact has no Speed Selection, and no "self tapping screw" mode which I actually like a lot.

Yes, you need the hammer drill option for cement.

You can have both worlds. I am. I got rid of my Dewalt and Makita. I'm in the Ryobi, Ridgid and Milwaukee lineup now. I buy Ridgid for the lifetime warrantee, Ryobi for items both don't have (ex. stick vacuum, awesome), and M12 for the 4-in-1 drill and nibbler. There are pros and cons to each brand. Ex. Ryobi Pole Hedge Trimmer vs Milwaukee: Ryobi has better balance and lighter. Milwaukee has better built, more power, but heavy and unbalanced. A great workout after 30 minutes.

In short, now I'm looking in this order M12, Ridgid, and then Ryobi tools.

sigh - I feel like that's where i'll end up also - multiple. sucks to be in multiple battery systems - i'm "only" in Ryboi and Ego. M12 has me thinking though!

For me, I don't use the hammer function even 10% of the time reach for my m12 drill. It's a useless function for me, since it's underpowered compared to any 18v/20v hammer drill. If I'm going to drill in concrete I rather reach for my SDS. Since I already have a better hammer drill and SDS, it's just better (for me) to have a lighter smaller m12 drill.

I think someone mentioned they will match pricing with other gen 2 stubbys. For me, it's either this or the Astro palm impact.

But it's 139/140 with $10 shipping. No Free shipping to home.
If you have a close Northern Tool location, it's free shipping to store, so it matches this deal if you factor in drill/bit set.

Usually HD does hacks on ala carte tools with ala carte batteries, not the kits. Moreover, this is probably one of the better deals because it's not actually a Milwaukee bundle. It's a custom HD bundle, which they never make part of hacks.
Some misinformation here. They certainly do make "home depot bundles" part of hacks sometimes. Not often, but it does happen. There was recently an M18 FUEL 4.5/5" grinder with a grinding wheel that was. Also recently the M18 FUEL Hackzall with a carbide pruning blade. I got my M12 FUEL drill/impact driver with an extra 5.0 battery hacked with a SECOND 5.0 battery. I got my M12 SURGE kit as part of a bundle with an M12 right angle drill that came with a "free" 3/8 ratchet I returned. It's not really that rare for a Home Depot bundle to be able to be hacked with an additional free item. Sometimes the bundled item is an additional tool, sometimes a battery, and sometimes consumables like bits/blades

Either way, though...this is a nice find and a good price for a brand new release. I don't have an immediate NEED so I'll be waiting until I can find the kit for ~$100.

Not misinformation. It's actually very accurate. I wrote "usually" with regards to the Milwaukee pack.

Also, HD bundles are not the same thing. They put everything under a single sku so they cannot be "hacked." What you are referring to is the Milwaukee bundle with the return "hack." For the hack to work, they are treated as two separate items. HD bundles do not exist in the Milwaukee catalog, they are unique to HD, and exist as a single item on a receipt. You can see this through the listed model number. In this offer for kit with the drill bit set is "3494-22-48-89-4670." This is the mash of two model numbers into a single unit for HD's online inventory (3494-22 and 48-89-4670). You cannot find "3494-22-48-89-4670" as a item in Milwaukee's catalog. For the hack to work, each item is separated on the receipt, which means each item can be found in Milwaukee's catalog by model number. This would be the case if HD setup so that you buy "3494-22" and then also get the "48-89-4670." HD bundle =! Milwaukee Bundle. You were able to make that return because both items are on the receipt separately, and that kit you bought has its own sku (which you can find in the Milwaukee catalog) apart from the rachet.

Another example of this was the High Torque M18 + HO M18 8.0 Battery that came as a single bundle, not a buy one get the other free. Or the Ryobi High Impact that came with a a free Impact Socket Set.
