I almost went for the max. But at 48GBs of ram I'm looking at 700 dollar price difference over the pro. The amount of time I'd save with the gpu rendering isn't worth that much to me.

This is a good deal. TBH, I am considering price matching this MBP at Best Buy where they will let me trade in my current MacBook Air.

Tempted! Would Costco or best buy likely to match? Would prefer to buy from Costco for the extended warranty

Why are there never any good deals on 16"? Like 97% of the sales are 14.2"

Very few people are buying desktop-sized laptops these days. I don't even remember when I last used a 15.6" laptop, probably in 2010-12.
Everyone is looking for compact size and lightweight.

The Max models are super nice, but they do carry a big price premium. They have more RAM, 2x the RAM bandwidth, 2x the GPU, and a lot more of the heavy lifting cores. I'm still on the M1 Max and no complaints 5 years later. My previous MacBook Pro (13" Intel 16GB RAM 1TB flash) lasted 9 years of heavy use (programming, server virtualization, gaming, ...)

When I'm forced to replace this one, I'll almost certainly get another Max.
