So this is about the same price of the Refurb D2. Obviously the D2 is more polished as everything is in one package. What would make me want this over the D2?

EDIT: a few of the YT videos I've seen regarding DIY inverter/battery use hell-of-a-lot thicker cables. How safe are the cables included running ~ 500w for an emergency outage. Will likely run fridge and internet.

The only thick cable you need is from the battery to inverter. E.g. 2awg cable. 1ft is more than enough. Not a hell lot.

The cables included - or at least in the pic - sure don't look like 2awg. Also, I'm not talking a lot more but a lot thicker.

this price makes no sense as a "deal"

the battery has been $140 or less routinely

the same inverter/charger is $250 - $80 = $170 on amazon
(and has been cheaper)


if you can deal with 600watts it's even cheaper

You can get away with much smaller than 2 gauge actually. Your run length with DC current is a huge determining factor for wire size. A short 1 foot run of 8 gauge can handle the same rated amperage as a 13 foot run of 2 gauge. which is 120-150 amps for both scenarios. They make charts you can download online to figure out exactly what you need. I have a great chart but I dont know how to upload images here. If you are uncertain, bigger is always better than smaller. Although sizing up might not be necessary, it also never a bad thing

You can get away with much smaller than 2 gauge actually. Your run length with DC current is a huge determining factor for wire size. As long as its pur copper and not cheapo CCA wire, a short 1 foot run of 8 gauge can handle the same rated amperage as a 13 foot run of 2 gauge. which is 120-150 amps for both scenarios. They make charts you can download online to figure out exactly what you need. I have a great chart but I dont know how to upload images here. If you are uncertain, bigger is always better than smaller. Although sizing up might not be necessary, it also never a bad thing .

Side note: Stay away from CCA wire which can only handle about 70% the amperage a quality OFC or just plain full Copper wire can handle.

Ya, that's probably why they have like 6awg or something (based on the picture) -) but as a rule of thumb 2awg is what usually recommended, and likely what the other commentator saw on YouTube.

Definitely. I see people using heavier than needed wire all the time. It's a lot safer to be over what's necessary than under what's necessary. Always staying on the side of safer is a good rule of thumb.

I just checked my chart. It shows that a short 2' run of 2 gauge pure copper wire can handle 300amps of current at 12.6 volts. thats close to 4000 watts.

But what are the odds that the included wires are pure copper wires and not the cheap stuff?

I think the odds are they used something they knew wouldn't cause lawsuits and wouldn't burn down their customers houses/motorhomes/vans because their product creates a fire hazard because they chose to skimp on proper wire gauge. They aren't exactly a fly by night company so they have a reputation to protect. My guess would be whatever they send it with is going to be just fine.

I don't see this as that great of a deal, but as for your question of why get this versus a refurb Delta2: the ability to upgrade and replace parts in a build your own versus an all-in-one. I had to tear apart an all-in one to scavenge a perfectly good battery pack because the charge controller went out and made the whole unit worthless. Now I build my own with easy to swap USB chargers/ DC chargers/ inverters/ solar chargers, etc. All in cheap Harbor Freight cases.
