B&H Photo Video has 16' Tether Tools TetherPro USB 2.0 Active Extension Cable (Black) on sale for $4.99. Shipping is free.
Thanks to Deal Editor citan359 for sharing this deal.
Features:
The set-up is simple, just plug the male end of the cable into the computer and then plug your camera or other device's USB cable into the female end of this cable so the repeater is closest to the device and not the computer.
Drop-off in signals can be avoided by daisy chaining up to four active USB extensions and one passive 15' (4.57 m) USB together.
Signals and data transfers going in and out of the cable are buffered to ensure consistent signal quality, meeting USB's highest electrical and timing specifications.

is this just a long USB cable that amplifies the signal?
Yes, tho it's 2.0 usb (not 3.0) and the signal 'amplification' is just enough to thwart and overcome the 16' or so threshold for (non-active) usb max cable length.
What camera system you even using that uses usb 2.0? 😅
Camera system? I plan on using this with my computer. I have my computer in my crawlspace and long hdmi cables and usb hubs to connect my monitors/TVs and USB devices all throughout the house. Right now for my USB 2.0 hubs it's a lot of passive cables, some daisy chained to each other or other hubs, and speeds are really slow. this should hopefully help.

I said camera system because tethertools is what photographers use to do tethered photography between a camera and their computer. This is what this cable was intended for.
Sure, you can do that other stuff you're talking about with these cables, but for the price point you could probably find cheaper packs on amazon for cables that werent meant for tethered photography.

If you can find me a deal on Amazon that compares let me know. It will stop me from buying even more!
Embarrassingly, I bought four at $21.06 shipped—even though I don't need the extensions. FOMO is a powerful thing. Thanks for compelling me to buy stuff I don't need just because it's on sale, OP. 😂
They could come in handy for printers, scanners, or other noisy devices that you'd want to keep in a separate room from your main PC setup. USB 2.0 is really going to limit your options though due to the slow transfer speed. (External Hard Drives and 4k-8k Cameras are not really compatible)
I'm really stretching to justify my purchase, though. I suppose I could try flipping two of the cables and get the other two for free...

I'm not the person you were replying to but you provided a concise explanation that I'm sure more than a few people needed... including myself.
