It's a technique / style for haircuts that have the perfect gradation of hair.

And self haircut mirror. Also, you need to have a lot of light so get mirror with light if you can.
I think the point of this is to let the curve of your head naturally fade your hair which is how I fade (vs constantly switching guards or adjusting levers). This method only allows for high fades though. I just run a 3 all over and then put on a .5 guard and run the clippers straight up the sides of my head. Then I'll edge no guard. Makes my haircuts real quick so I do them more frequently and I dont even need a mirror anymore so I just stand in the shower for virtually no cleanup.
Wahl seems to think the angle of the blade on this clipper is better for that but I can't confirm that.
