FWIW, I did this at Christmas. They shipped it in a PLASTIC BAG!!! Best go to the store and not have it shipped from Costco! Also, that way you can pick a color!

This is my favorite iPad and my most used one, since it's not trying to be a laptop replacement. Great form factor and very lightweight. Those who are waiting for Apple M silicon on the Mini are missing the point that iPadOS is taking very little advantage of those processors, if at all.

Is a new one expected soon, maybe WWDC? Considering the Mini gets the least amount of love, I'd be shocked, but it probably needs a better CPU for AI.
