EV and battery tech in China is way beyond other countries at this point. They also make lots of these for the domestic market and any safety issues would have been flagged and addressed faster than the current US skeletal agencies could anyway. The fires you hear about are usually because users don't understand basic li ion safety precautions such as overcharging, or mismatching voltage and amps. Or even building and repairing the batteries on their own. Stick with using the charger that came with it and you should be fine.

I bought this last month and think it's a pretty decent deal. Other than reviews mentioning it doesn't come with instructions (which was accurate), the battery is actually 20ah instead of the 15ah advertised. Still testing and confirming the max range, which it has already reached 25 miles at max speed of 20mph. With the adjustable handlebars and seat I think it can handle larger people fine, maybe a bit cramped.

Biggest issue recently is that the chain broke, as it doesn't seem to handle pedaling without electric assist (had to pedal several miles the first day when the battery died since I didn't charge it when it arrived). Pedaling still turns on the motor even without the chain attached though lol. Will see how good their support is, so stay tuned.

If the price goes back down to $320 and you're not afraid to tinker, I think it's worth a purchase.
