I just bought this and I like it except one thing. When I first got it I loosened all the screws and I still couldn't open the jaws. The slide was basically glued closed. I ended up forcing it. It wasn't far from the amount of force required to break it. Now that it's free it moves fine.

Yea me too. I had to watch videos on how it worked to make sure I wasn't breaking it. It finally popped open and has had zero issues since.

It is a standard 1/4" in three directions. The Joby ball head and all reasonably- sized Joby tripods don't fit on 2/3 directions. I'm using it with a smaller cheaper ball head.

They're nearly giving these away because their product is practically irrelevant these days: the maximum width is too small for most modern tablets. This dates way back to the tiny tablet era.

also, the 90 degree rotation setting needs some coaxing with a big wrench

How big is your "most modern tablet"?

This thing can easily accommodate a 10-12" tablet no problem. I have an old ipad pro 10.5 with a thick rugged UAG case and it holds it without issue. Its about 1-1.5" too short to hold a 15" portable monitor.

This thing is super sturdy and well made with solid clamps. I was just looking for my old one to use while cooking last night, so seeing this is a super weird coincidence. In for another!

Looks great for my needs! Claims to securely hold any tablet from 5.1 to 9.25" in width and up to 0.67" deep. So that should work for my Ereaders and iPad Air.

What would be the best way to use these to mount tablets in the back seat of the car for the kids to watch shows?

The 9" width is fine for lots of tablets. It mounts across the shorter edge of the tablet, not the longer side.

I recently bought the bundle from B&H that came with the small Joby tripod. I also could not get the clamp to extend at all. I requested an RMA from B&H to return it, but still haven't gone to FedEx. The clamp was literally within arms reach as I read your comment, so I tried to extend it again and voila it finally budged.

I really wish I hadn't tried again though because now I can't return it since there's no "defect" anymore. I had ordered another tablet clamp from Amazon for $21 and that one is waaay better quality than the Joby one. If you search for Leaplumin tablet tripod mount adapter you should find it.

Same here. I was almost ready to send it back as defective.
