I was ready to buy until I read the Q&A's. Ryobi rep. says this can only be used with the 3" x 12" depth auger bit included. Ad is misleading because they even show among the "frequently bought together" items a 4" bit and even a 6" auger bit. Pretty much useless for anything other than a metal fence post in soft ground. That's just my opinion. Read the specs. and Q&A's yourself to make an informed decision.
I helped a neighbor dig small holes in clay soil for his aluminum fence. He started by using a battery-powered auger like this one. It lasted a couple of holes before the battery died; but it was slow and tedious for those two holes.

I brought my gas-powered auger and we did 55 holes in a couple hours. I couldn't imagine using a battery auger for anything other than small holes for plants, and even then there are much cheaper ways to do that.
My 15 year old blue Ryobi drill is my auger. You can but the auger drill bits on Amazon

I have been having a tough time getting decent auger drill bits for my ryobi hammer drill. Perhaps my soil in Northern California is too tough? Any recommendation for auger bits that can drill 18"? Need to put down some watering stakes.
