Reading the reviews this is only useful as a lightweight travel shaver and won't stand up to daily use, not to mention you'll have to trash it once the head is done with since replacement blades are more expensive than the shaver itself

The Andis reSurge (17300 model) is such a great electric shaver. I typically use a DE razor but got an electric razor to keep at the office. It's the first shaver I've used that didn't leave me hating the experience.
$40 Merkur + $10 for 100 blades is my first pick. (I just used canned shave cream)
$65 for Andis reSurge is my second pick. (be sure to get a can of all in one clipper spray)

Is this usual for electric razors? I only wet shave with DE safety blades so I'm not familiar.
Can't say about costs of other brands' electric razor blade replacements, but Panasonic's nose trimmers are the same way — cheaper to buy a whole new trimmer than buy blade tips
I'm curious about the closeness of the shave this razor provides. I currently use a Panasonic Norelco, but I feel it doesn't cut as close as I'd would like

I got one with the last deal and kinda regret it. Head is way too big and it doesn't cut as well as that black/green Phillips razor (the one with the flat head)
