Have one for our camper. Best coffee, is camping coffee. This percolator makes it great! Just right for 2.
Edit: I guess I should add, ours has help up great for 5 years now. Handle stays cool for pouring.

Would this give the same depth of flavor you get by making pour over coffee?

Not really, it works by repeatedly bubbling the boiling coffee through the grounds. It makes for strong, old-school coffee. The end result is more similar to French press coffee but less muddy.

Pour over only passes the water over the coffee once and at a temperature lower than boiling, which makes for a more balanced and nuanced result. That's why pour over is so often used with fancy single origin beans.

A nice thing about a percolator is that it's extremely simple, durable, and the only equipment you need is a stovetop or burner, which is why it's popular for camping. But some people (me included) just really like the taste of percolator coffee too. I would use a percolator over Mr Coffee style filtered coffee machine every time. Cheaper too.

I don't know about this model specifically, but typically no extra filters needed. It has a metal brewing basket and you use coarse ground coffee in it

I tried 3 different percolators, one electric and 2 stovetop and even after trying varying amount of coffee and different perk times was always disappointed in the strength and flavor. I finally just gave up!

Intrigued by percolator coffee, many people swear by it. This seems like this a good way to give it an honest try.

How easy is this to clean vs an aero press?

I've been using an AP for camping for a few years now but it sucks only making one serving at a time and I've knocked it over once or twice while pouring the water. But, the AP is super easily to clean with just bottled water.

Percolators are a PITA to clean and no matter how careful you are to remove the pot from the heat at just the right instant they always produce a distinct burnt taste. Save your money for the AeroPress XL, or do what Alan Adler intended make a concentrated AP brew and dillute.

Confused. Specs mention 800 watts but also "Stovetop Coffee Percolator Glass Clear Brew Progress....". The pictures in the reviews are (like many times) for different variations of the listed product which are electric.

After a simple search I found the manual. It is not electric but it does mention gas and electric as a heat source. "Adjust gas flame or select properly sized electric burner so that heat only
touches the bottom"

I suppose there's no arguing with personal taste, but percolators make horrible coffee that tastes burnt and has crud in it, so other than for camping (there is such a thing as instant coffee if you don't mind horrible tasting coffee) this is a bad choice for making coffee. You could probably pick one up at a garage sale for 2 dollars. The reason you don't really see these any more is because they suck really bad.
