The key is making sure it's fully charged before using it (Duh! I know). I did a cook and I thought it was charged, and I guess it wasn't. It stopped working during my smoke, luckily I had a backup that I used instead. I gave it a second chance since I kind of figured once I recharged it, it would work. It did, no issues whatsoever. I've used it about a half dozen times now in the past six months. Pretty accurate too.
When you first turn it on, the probe temp is 32 degrees and it throws some code. You just have to wait a few seconds till the probe temp is displaying the current room temperature, and you're good to go. I really like the display on the base because it gives you the option of not using the app. It's also USB-C so that's good. I haven't had any issues with distance. I've used it in my garage, and it still works in my living room, about 40 ft and a wall in between, and it stayed connected. The app is lackluster but functional. The only weird thing is some temperatures get skipped by a degree. I forget which ones, but for example, if you try to pick 160 it allows 159 then jumps to 161. It could be something to do with Celsius, but it's no biggie. I just pick one above or below.
