I've had this Jet drill press since about 2016. It's good but FYI, it's a rebadged WEN 4214T [homedepot.com], which is just $217 right now at Home Depot. I have a lot of Jet tools (including the mortiser in this post) and like them but I would buy the Wen drill press.

True but it's literally twice as much, so you could think of it as buying a $217 drill press with a 2 year warranty, plus an additional $217 just for an extended warranty.

Like I said, I'm happy with the Jet. But if I could do it again, I would get the Wen and spend the difference on something else.

You may be right, but the Wen you listed has a 2 year warranty where this Jet has a 5 year.

Agree. Side by side it's identical to the Wen. Minor change in platform design, but otherwise. Paying for the 5 year warranty and badge on the Jet.

I bought the Wen twice. Both times returned it for major defects. The Jet is probably just as bad. Bought a vintage press for the same price and it's 10 times the press the Wen wishes it could be.

It is quite likely that the more expensive tool, even when made in the same factory, has many more quality control checks throughout the whole manufacturing process.

Home Depot doesn't show it as a "Special Buy" or anything. Amazon [amazon.com] has it for the same price and the price history shows that it's been between $217 and $240 since September.
