These are fantastic. The quality is really nice, and very comfortable. I've owned these for 2 years and wear them often, and they are still in great condition. They fit really well on me too, not baggy.
I couldn't find any alternatives from other brands that come anywhere close. Columbia has some cheap ones, but without thumb slots and they feel cheaper, and don't fit as well. (More of a fishing look)
You're right, REI should reduce the quality so that they are disposable after half a season, so that they can sell them to frugaljerk slickdealers

Agree. I've used ones from Columbia, OR, and Black Diamond and the material on the REI hoodie is superior. It's so soft and breathable and it stays amazingly dry even after wearing it all day.

How does this compare to OR Echo or Patagonia Capilene Cool Lightweight fabric?

Haven't tried it but don't like the fact that there is no way to open the neck up - like the Ketl No Fry hoodie or OR Astroman hoodie.

The OR Echo is very very thin. It'll snag on the littlest of things. Great in high heat, terrible for durability. The Patagonia Cap Cools have a great material and are my favorite in the crew neck. The material is slick, so the hood struggles to stay in place. This one from REI is my favorite hooded sun shirt. My hobbies and work both have me in the sun so I've bought many sun shirts.

I really like these. I tried a couple other brands and these still are my choice.

I do have one that picked up a grease/oil stain on the front that I can't get out. It is small. But still there.

Would really like if they could figure out the side tag setup. It is annoying as hell.

I didn't wear sun hoodies for years because I didn't like the extra fabric hanging off my neck when the hood was down and simply preferred ventilation/bare skin (I have a sunscreen I really like).

However, all my friends loved them, so I finally gave them a shot last year. During sales of various brands (Columbia/MH, Outdoor Research, UnderArmour, etc.) I got their nicest ones and compared them. After several months and close to a dozen types, this is my favorite for moderate to warm temperatures, and the Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily is my favorite for hot temperatures.

The fit is great, the fabric is very soft (I've had people ask the brand after giving me a hug) and breathable while still being a little warm if you put a layer on top of it when the sun goes down. I bought two more yesterday when I saw this sale went live.

Do you happen to have insights on OR Echo? I am in Texas and the heat is intolerable.
