Still the best space opera out there, though there are some worthy contenders (Expanse, Farscape, Stargate).
Holding out for $19.99 on iTunes again

Is this version "the right one"? There were so many weird things with this canadian sci-fi show. It had TV movies and I can't even remember: but if you saw episode 9 in like season 3 it ruined seasoned 4 or something like that.

From reddit: "Watch the Gathering, then the show all the way through Season 4. After Season 4 but before Season 5 watch In the Beginning. Then watch Season 5. Then Thirdspace, River of Souls, Call to Arms. Then Crusade. Then watch the remaining movies as you see fit. I know many say watch Thirdspace in the middle of Season 4, because the events happen at that time, however, it is told in hindsight and so I say it should be viewed later."

All that being said: It's a sci-fi show absolutely worth watching. It's more of a soap opera set in space, but does cover some topics star trek covers, but star trek usually wraps it up within a single episode.

If Blake's 7 and Dr Who are your thing, this is best thing since Star Wars.

My partner tells me: You cannot remaster a show when the masters were destroyed in a warehouse fire.

Is this truly a reamastered edition then?

I think "remaster" can be used broadly, to mean reworking a piece of media to make improvements, primarily to audio\video quality. Worthwhile improvements are possible even when you don't have the original masters. Likewise, it's possible to remaster a piece--even in the strict sense of working from original masters--and end up with something different but not better.

Here's a comment on a Babylon 5 remaster that I assume is the same remaster being sold here:
Quote :
It isn't a perfect remastering given the fuzzy look of scenes that are blended CG and live action, but it is better than how those scenes looked on DVD by far. And some rolling lines in the darker scenes that look like they are from a composite master or something.

CG scenes tend to have a shimmer/line pattern to them from the uprez from whatever that broadcast master they used, too.

Still, the rest of the time (which is like 80% of the show) it looks great. They didn't overdo the digital cleanup/noise reduction either, which happens on a lot of these kinds of old film transfer projects.

Where was there a story about Babylon 5 masters being destroyed in a fire? In any case, I believe the speculation from fans with technical knowledge is that rather than taking the original film elements and reediting them, which is what people had assumed needed to be done(since I believe people thought the show had been edited on tape), they actually used film prints of the episodes that had been made for international distribution.

Well worth the cost. I have seen lots of SF down through the years and B5 is my favorite of them all. I fell in love with it when it was first run in syndication. When TBS picked it up for broadcast, I set up my VCR (Remember those?) and manually recorded each episode from S1 to S5. I did backflips when they released DVD box sets one season at a time, of course bought them all. Then last year, when they announced the BR release, I had a preorder in and got it day of release. Watched all the BRs from S1 to S5 in about a month. I have all the movies on DVD, waiting hopefully for a BR release of those someday. There is also a DVD anthology called Lost Tales and a recently released CG movie. I guess you can say I'm a B5 fan. I f you don't want physical media, definitely get this. Worth the price.
