If I were you guys, I would stay the F away from Miniforums refurbs. The last order I had, they sent me a filthy computer that was sticky all over, the computer kept on crashing and giving me BSOD. Took many weeks to return it and had to file a dispute with credit card company to get paid as they waited over a week since they received it and still didn't refund me, which is why I had to get the credit card company involved. Honestly, its just not worth the trouble. Got me instead a mac mini m4 for $450 from Microcenter and the thing has been flawless. Miniforums is a trash company to deal with, either buy it direct from Amazon or get another brand.
Barebone doesn't include windows. The versions with ram and ssd do.
That issue was only in Desktop chips, not in Mobile chips from any generation, even the 13th and 14th Gen (Raptor Lake, Raptor Lake Refresh). Mobile chips use a different chiplet layout than Desktop counterparts and has far restricted and mostly locked Voltage and current curves, which was responsible for the issue in the desktop chips. As of now, there is not a single reported issue with Intel 13th and 14th Gen Mobile Processors.

This one always confused me, it was huge for what is inside, they clearly have a design/thought to put in a MXM GPU in but looks like it never panned out and put it into production rather than redesigning it.

Nvidia charges a ton for royalty fees, which Minisforum would ultimately have to pass down to the consumer, which would severely impact sales. I only see corporate type mini PCs using the MXM, like the advantech chassis. What IS surprising though is no thunderbolt on any of the USB-C ports, like the other poster mentioned, I think they would have had a lot more sales for being able to support high speed external devices and eGPUs.

I can only speak for my one experience, but I just got a refurbished NAD9 16/512 (for $305). A mesh panel was a bit bent and no screws for the stand, but this machine is dead silent. I'm really impressed.

For anyone wondering, this is 12th gen, and the instability issues with Intel are from the 13th and 14th gen of chips. So this should be good.

Seems like a powerful system for the price honestly. Wish I could remember what I did with my wife's old laptop ram, when we upgraded her system from 16 to 32. Would make this system basically perfect along with a 512 GB SSD for like 25-30 bucks. Crazy amount of power for less than $300.

I have Proxmox home servers based off the NAD9 at both of my places and they've been operating continuously for 1.5 years with no issues.

These are super silent, seem unusually reliable given the other problems people have reported with Minisforum hardware, and have great compatibility with Proxmox and Plex transcoding.

One caveat I will point out is that it's configured for a TDP of 45W so you're not going to get the screaming performance of a mobile Core i9, which often times in gaming laptops is allowed to boost up to 100W. But in exchange, it will be basically completely silent, you can't hear fan noise even under full load. If you know what you're doing, you can adjust the TDP and the fan curve in the BIOS to get it to run faster.

The second one I got was a refurb and other than missing the stand and its screws, it looked basically brand new and seems just as reliable.

Damn. Don't know how they do it. Used Dell/HP SFF are hundreds more for similar specs.

In case you were wondering, intel very clearly stated that laptop processors were unaffected by the voltage issue that the desktop processors had.
