how are these packs without padded shoulder straps? we're talking 1.25 lbs for the pack plus 6.25 lbs of water plus the actual stuff you carry in the pack...

At least when we bought some a few weeks ago, over half of their hydration packs were around half off, even online. If that's true you could probably expand the deal. Granted unless you are local or buy more than one you run into shipping costs.

I had this pack for about 9 years now, and I think it is more of a biking pack than a hiking pack. I used it mostly for hiking and now it is all ripped. I did about 2000 miles with it.
It is not as comfortable as Osprey Talon, but then it is also 2.5 cheaper.

I used the camelbak mule but different version with the pad for music festivals for the past 6 years and it's pretty solid. I did have issues with it leaking but it was more of a cap issue and camelbak sent me a new one long time ago and it was good ever since.
