Based on my experience with these and other road "Road to trail shoes", they are good for road running and ligher trails. Think "crushed stone" type trail or dirt only. I definitely am not taking any of these into a hard day on the mountains on technical terrain (serious rocks and roots).
Regarding this specifically. The lug (tread) depth just isn't enough for more technical stuff or running on hard packed snow.
The fit is good. They are lightweight and comfortable. I've used them for short distances (4 to 5 mile runs) and ran a 50k (31 miles) in them so they can definitely handle up to that distance. For this price, if you're a casual runner or walker, I'd pick up a pair. Merrell is under-rated and don't get anywhere near the hype of larger shoe companies, but they put out some good shoes at much cheaper price points.
I have these shoes in black well worth the price of $75. Why is it always the ugly colors on sale? I would have to be in the deep trails wearing these. If black were $49 would buy several. These are my daily wearers. The soles are noisy like a golf spike shoe but great always on your feet with changing terrain.
Both black and white are on sale. What am I misunderstanding?
This brand is going down. I used to love their Moab, bought a lot of their Moab 1/2/3
Then seems they switched to the low quality and economical strategy. The most recent 3 pair of moab got water leaked in after a few months usage. What I bought were Gore-Tex version, not cheap, supposed to be absolutely water proof.
Now I see Merrell from time to time have promotions out with some crappy shoes. Another brand ruined.
I stay away from this brand.
