Does anyone know if it is now safe to update the os? I've declined doing so ever since.
They actually fixed it in the last release.
Risk updating then? The nvidia forums were a complete mess last time I tried to research this.
I just use it as a plex and streaming client for my epson 5050 projector in media room.
I dabbled using retroarch too but need to set that back up.

I have no issues. Granted, I had to do some work arounds to get audio to work before, but I updated yesterday and noticed they had a fix in. Because I don't care i wiped plex and the other installers and reinstalled plex and it works. Could have been the last update or another one, but I will just assume it was last update. Think it was a May 6 release.
My main concern arises from whether or not this can replace the voice commands successfully of an Amazon Alexa. Turn the TV on, navigate to a show on XYZ app, turn the TV off. Don't need to get crazy with it.

Thanks guess I will give it a go.
Regarding the device I have had no complaints other than one bomb update that killed my plex server on the shield.
It streams great. The ui is very responsive and snappy.
I don't use it as the plex server anymore after that bad update and instead have an n100 mini pc now for the server side and just use shield as client.
It also serves as a good nvidia cloud game service streamer and I think has a steam link app as well. My projector latency isn't great so don't do that much… but you can also setup a retro gaming setup on it and works well for that
If my projector supported dv Apple TV might be a better option

Absolutely solid, fast as all can be, runs everything without any issues. Debating to get a 2nd one for the bedroom now. Would like HDMI 2.1 for future proofing but obviously it isn't all that necessary at this time.
