Someone tell me what the deal is with Converse shoes. I don't get it. They are super-expensive for what they are (canvas and a rubber sole). The cushioning is kind of crap; you wouldn't want to run in them. Why is everyone wearing them? I got a cheapo pair just to see. They are not anything good.

I haven't owned a pair in a few years, but I grew up in them. I think they look good and are comfortable casual shoes. But I agree that the usual price is ridiculous. Converse is very litigious in protecting their brand from any competitors making any sort of shoe that is stylistically similar. And they can charge way too much because people will pay it and there is no alternative.

I personally use them at the gym (not running) as they make excellent shoes for squats and deadlifts.
