good deal, but note that this is more of a scooter than a bicycle - no pedals, throttle only

Yup, amazon reviews say basically any uphill slope means you will be walking this and complain it's heavy at 53 lbs. At least with my scooter I can kick to stay in double digits uphill and it's light enough to single handed carry up/down stairs.

It appears the only thing that folds is the handle. Between that and the lack of pedals, it's a bit of a stretch to call it a folding bike.

Seems like this is purely for transportation and not to facilitate exercise. It's a budget option for a Jack Rabbit.

If you have a short commute or can recharge at the destination, this might be a solid alternative choice to driving.

That said, since it uses a 36v battery you likely could buy a $100, 36v 10ah battery off Amazon and double your range after wiring it in with a battery balancer.

The thing about the Jackrabbit scooter (I call it scooter because it has no pedals) is that it's just way too expensive. They're a local company, and I've had a chance to talk to the owner. He mentioned the same thing on the website that he designed it with college students in mind — but at that price, most students would probably just buy one of these instead and save themselves a thousand bucks.

Without petals you lose one of the key advantages of these low wattage folding e-bikes is that with petals when you reach difficult patches you can effectively add the missing torque you have from a low power motor so even though your motor is only 450 watts you can achieve a power of a thousand watt motor when you need it such as just going up a hill.

They're actually pretty great product quality wise I just don't expect any support. I treat them like a Chinese company.

Need pedals to be categorized as class I assisted bike, which is allowed in college campus. Otherwise it won't go into most college buildings, including dorms.
