I would consider the two processors to be very similar. (12700k vs 14600k)

Is it basically that as long as you are running latest bios update that it won't affect the 14th gen CPU?
I wouldn't bet on it at this point.
My friend immediately applied the UEFI updates when he received the RMA replacement for his 14900KF last year, but the replacement was also toasted (unable to install Windows and graphics card drivers without crashing) as of last month.
Intel has also released another microcode update last month to fix the Vmin Shift issue.

Get the 12th gen Intel if you want to stick to the monolithic design or consider the AMD CPUs or Intel Arrow Lake processors if you're okay with the chiplet design.

I feel like it's mostly the i9 that have this issue. I think some I7 idk if I have heard of any i5 failures.

If you are buying a new parts I'd say go with one of those Newegg Amd 9600x deals. I went with this because I got the MB for 68$ and have DDR4 to throw in it.

How good is it compared to my 13600k?

I got a NUC13 Extreme.

https://youtu.be/H4xxgmGVkc4?si=kL0-ZnBJbD60EhQU Jay2cents says he locked voltage at the base rate in his mb so his 14900k wouldn't suffer. His still died.
But did he lock voltage before using the CPU?

Did it already degrade from earlier? Is it a one off?
Don't get me wrong, I'm with you. It could definitely be a problem, but a single sample isn't conclusive. Either way, I'm stuck with my NUC13 Extreme so hoping for the best and if it fails, it fails within the 3-year warranty period I have on it.

Yes, on the flip side my work pc runs 24/7 on a 13900k and it's been running fine since the 13900k launched (2-2.5 years since built), and that's just running on stock settings.

I'm running mine at stock too. The squeeze isn't worth the juice. In fact, looking to just upgrade to a 13900k if it ever comes down enough in price.

That said, I probably should check the benchmarks between the 13600k and 13900k to see if it's even worth it.
