This is an amazing indie game!! Command the crew of your spaceship, managing weapons, engines, shields, etc., diplomatic/combat dialogue scenarios, boarding crews, resource and ship management, navigating through sectors until you face a boss ship. Infinitely replayable. I'll probably be playing this game off and on all my life. It's a steal for this price. 84% metacritic score. ~60,000 reviews have it at Overwhelmingly Positive.
I've owned this game for many years and I do go back every so often. Even though I'm absolutely terrible at the game, its still a lot of fun!

This game looks aggravatingly difficult.
As someone who hates overly difficult games, or games that are really difficult to get good at...will this game suck for me?

FYI you might have this free on epic games before you buy it.

This sounds like a nightmare, considering I bought this game over a decade ago and never could beat it.

Maybe it was bad rolls, but I don't recall ever getting past the first five encounters before the difficulty ramped up unreasonably.
Like every blue choice has a system or crew that is the right choice. Rock crew with fire, Engi with infected, blast doors with intruders, etc. The most critical part is getting to level 2 shield in the first map and knowing what weapons/drones to focus on getting. Also important to not waste missiles/bombs when you can win slowly with lasers, assuming you can do it with no damage.

Some people find it annoying, but I've killed a hundred hours or more on this, unlocking all the different race ships. Then again when I got the updated version... 1#@%!# clone bays....

It's a bit like rogue, if you're familiar. IF you have a bad start, it's pointless. Just try again until you have a little luck in the first sector or two with extra weapon(s) or crew members. Some ships / loadouts are a LOT tougher than others without a good bit of luck as well. Some ships like the first one are relatively easy for a reason. That burst laser II makes everything with level 1 shields just melt away. Forget about getting two of them...!

My brother had some kind of learning disability with this game (he's normally fine). Just could NOT handle the concept of delaying attacks with some weapons until they could all fire so as to bring down the enemy shields for a moment to let the final weapons hit.

PS. this has been free or even cheaper than this more than once and probably will be again.

Install the Multiverse mod. Absolutely opens up this game in amazing ways.

I've got more than 10x the hours in this game than any other game I own on PC. Plays great on a Steamdeck, too.

Agreed, multiverse mod + steamdeck, I still go back to it every couple of months.

One of my favorite games. Super random but really fun game where you command your own spaceship crew and fight other crafts while managing the crew, firing weapons and trying not to die. Everyone should own this.

Make use of the space bar to pause, and give commands while paused. It's the only way to win for mere mortals.
I've got 100% achievements on this game, and still enjoy playing it. It's one of my all time favorites, easy to pickup, quite difficult to master.

Explain?

I played and beat the game (and the free sequel with the crystal race).
But for some reason it's not on my desktop any more and the subdirectory is missing the ftl.exe file.

I can't use Steam because my desktop is Win7. (Steam no longer supports it)

I want the offline version so I can try Ftl multiverse

This game literally created a genre, everybody should play it.
What genre was that?

I've heard tons of games get called "FTL-like". Maybe I should have said sub-genre, because it's usually a label applied to rogelikes with elements similar to FTL.
