Seriously, don't even bother mentioning 4k if it's not 4k, since 4k source will automatically downconvert on almost all displays.

1080 is more than adequate for children or non videophiles, meaning the majority of the population. Besides. Not even all modern movies areuniversally filmed in 4K yet. There's still many that are 1080. 1080 Is not dead. You'd be surprised how many people couldn't tell the difference unless the are shown side by side. Anything beyond 1080 on a regular sized computer screen is unnecessary and not even useful. Its impractical Have you seen a regular size monitor set to 4k res for a windows laptop? The text is microscopic.. you cant even read it. Even 1080 on a regular sized monitor can be pushing it without increasing the default text size.

It clearly says its native 1080 with 4k support. Not all 1080 native-res devices support 4k video playback. This one does and since thats important to know, they tell you. There's no trickery going on. It's extremely useful to know if I can actually watch my 4K movies on it or not.

Hello, I'm asking this for education purposes, is 4K support based on the codec software the projector has built in or additional things? I gave my inlaws some ripped 4k movies to watch and the TV couldn't play, but the 1080 version could.

This is not my area of expertise, so I'm not 100% certain, but what I can say with certainty is not all native 1080 devices support 4K playback. This one does. Maybe somebody that has a better understanding of how codecs & playback work can chime in to help answer your question.
