"Despite the TV having modern gaming features, you can't use VRR with local dimming enabled, which is unusual and really holds back its usefulness for gamers."
I just got this TV. Very happy with it. Great image quality. I only play Switch, so it works for me from a gaming perspective.
I had an old Vizio M70-E3 from 2017, so this was a huge upgrade.
85" is huge and difficult to get up my stairs, and hard to mount too, but I got it done.
In the past, Panasonic TVs have better power supplies/electronics, heatsinks, and shielding. If these modern TVs are heavier than their competitors, then this design philosophy should warrant higher price.

I felt the same and just went W95. I noticed every review I read compared W95 to U8 or Bravia 7. Those are way outside this price range. Must be doing something right. My assumption is that if this is comparable to those it is better than the U6/7.
I've had a horrible experience with Beach Camera never delivering a "paid for" tv sold through Amazon.
I had a bad experience ordering an 83 inch OLED from Beach Camera. They used the budget delivery service, with a single delivery person attempting to maneuver a delicate 83 inch OLED inside and up a flight of stairs - if I had not refused delivery. Dude had this $5k TV laying down on its side on a dolly, a huge red flag for a delicate OLED panel with manufacturer instructions to keep it vertical at all times.
In contrast, I bought the same 83 inch OLED directly from LG, and they sent a 3 person delivery crew to safely bring the TV inside and carry it upstairs while keeping the TV vertical the entire time - physically impossible with only 1 person.
People knock LG for their aleged long delivery waits, but I would rather wait a week or two and have it done correctly and professionally without cutting corners like the "3 day delivery" people do.
TLDR: if ever you get a 77 or 83 inch OLED delivered by only 1 person, refuse the delivery because chances are panel is damaged, and it may not be evident immediately.

Panasonic is similar to Toyota, very conservative boring companies. No cutting edge technology. No bleeding edge performance. Their products prioritize durability at a reasonable price.
The biggest problem with these TVs is the Fire OS. Amazon probably pays Panasonic a big chunk of $ to cover the cost of manufacturing.

Newegg is also bad with TV delivery. I've had good luck with Best Buy. The best option is to grab one locally and load it in your vehicle if you have access to a truck.

The Z95A and this years Z95B sit among the best of the best TVs available. And if for some reason you do use it, the OS preferred is subjective between these elite TV brands.

I had similar experience with Walmart when they delivered 65 Sony OLED A90J with only 1 person climbing 3 floors of stairs, I returned it anyway.
Just received my 85 in panasonic W95 from Beach Camera. There was 2 delivery person, arrived in perfect condition and a very nice TV. Just did not realize that the TV is super heavy.

Received my TV 2 days ago. Delivery service shipping partner initially was only willing to bring it to the lobby of my building, not the front of my unit, but eventually helped me out and brought it up the front door of my unit as it fit in the elevator (and I helped them carry it down the hall from the elevator).
Picture quality was roughly on par with the 75" U7N I ordered a few months ago with slightly worse blacks but better motion handling, acceptable daytime brightness, but it had much less pop than my QN90A and was a very noticeable downgrade from the blacks of both the QN90A and the smaller C1 OLED it replaced.
Having a buddy stop over soon to help calibrate so that should help.
