See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.
I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

I received my Ultra today but there is no SIM card, the package was sealed, and nothing in the box. Does this mean I hit the free phone lottery?

Which carrier? It might be have eSIM activation so if you turn it on and connect to wifi to it will download eSIM but if it does not they you might have a free phone

The carrier was verizon. I don't recall see anything about esim when I turned on the phone and went through the setup process, I migrated my existing phone information over but I haven't physically moved the SIM yet. Wondering if I can do that or if I need to do any postpaid plan or wait until its unlocked?

Is your SIM with Verizon then you can try moving it and see if that works. Otherwise, you can open a new account. You do have to verify with CS before that they don't have any account with your details.

You can always flash the latest att or unlocked firmware using Odin, that always works.
True. But that is something i wanted to avoid as not too much comfortable relying on those patched firmware . Also i have already moved all the data and done phone setup on new phone. Flashing will require me to redo all again since it erase or require erasing existing data. Well if no other way then likely will proceed with flashing. Thanks for your response .

Flashing should not change user data partition so they should still be there, apps might need updating. For flashing ATT or Verizon firmware matching the phone you don't need patched Odin, only if you wanted to flash non-carrier version you would need it.

Ordered yesterday with VZ, got shipping confirmation today coming from Chino CA, even though I'm on the east coast. No emails from VZ about account setup yet. I also went on VZ and tried to setup new account with the phone number from order and they don't recognize it. fingers crossed.
Mine came from Chino. I got it on Friday and it didn't recognize the number until Saturday late afternoon. Never got any email from Verizon until after it was set up.

Mine didn't come with a sim either. When I activated mine it also said nothing about an esim but it showed under sim manager. Today, I finally got a notification to add the esim although it's been activated since Saturday. Verizon csr checked my acct and said the esim was indeed activated on Saturday.

On the plus side I was able to get my activation fee waived. I went to a Verizon store on Saturday to get a physical sim because I didn't want an esim. The rep there refused to give me one unless I let him activate the phone. It looked like he was trying to open a new acct even though I was already in the system. When I questioned what he was doing (he wanted my ssn and a picture of my drivers liicense) he got upset, said he is the professional and if I didn't let him do this that I can call 611 and wait 3 days for a sim. I chose to do that.

When I spoke to the rep I told them what happened. She apologized profusely and said they hear that a lot. She said she would send me the sim card. I asked if they would consider waiving the activation since I wasted a trip to the store and was treated horribly. She said she would need approval and she got it very quickly. Less than a minute later I got a text stating the $35 credit was applied to my acct.

Appreciate the help, my experience with these 'deals' is that you can screw them up and end up owing something if you make a mistake... so just going to ask more questions here!

When I open the Sim Manager, I see 'No Sim Card' and under eSIMs I see 'Add eSim' but there are no E-sims listed. When I click add, I have Transfer Sim from another phone and Search for eSims.

Primay Sim is also grayed out below.

Are you guys suggesting just popping my SIM in from my other phone, and seeing what happens? This is a brand new account on Verizon (I have an existing business account) and I registered for it through the Walmart website, so I don't even have an email and password to log in to Verizon with. Forgot my password on Verizon doesnt even send an email for reset to my 'registed' gmail account...

If they open their account first. So you can open a Verizon account by just email address and password and then link the new phone. That account remains longer (close to a month) even after the line is cancelled giving you a way to chat regarding bills etc.

I opened the Verizon account online, linked my service, went to store to payoff and cancelled the line in-store after the payoff. Came back, tried to login online but can't access the account anymore. What should I do? I am assuming they will send the final bill on my address. Will I be able to get it waived later?

Cannot unlock the ATT phone, what did I do wrong?
Maybe instead of 24 hrs, I have to wait 48 hrs after paying it off, sim swap etc?
..
Error message below :
"You can't unlock your device until your installment plan is paid off. If you pay off your device as part of your monthly bill, wait until the start of your next bill period to unlock it.
Want to pay off your device early? Make sure your number has been active on the device for at least 60 days. Then, sign into your account to review and pay off your installment plan. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit a new unlock request."
.
Can I cancel the service, keep the phone for 60days and request unlock as non-ATT customer again?
Not keen on paying ATT plan for 2 months.

I paid off the phone in the early morning yesterday and I waited till midnight like 12:10 past midnight to submit the unlock request but got rejected. Got this error like the user above reported: "You can't unlock your device until your installment plan is paid off. If you pay off your device as part of your monthly bill, wait until the start of your next bill period to unlock it.
