See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.
I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

Looks like many people are going through what I am experiencing. And I have the explanation.
In my case, I ordered Verizon S24+, received the phone today.
I didn't receive any simcard, any contract paper, no record of phone number, account number.
I visited the verizon corporate store, they can't locate my account by SSN, address, IMEI.
Spoke with customer service at 877-807-4646, and 800-922-0204. Same story.
However, one of the customer service rep mentioned that my phone is "locked and cannot be activated with Verizon"
I found this to be very very weird. So I went into Verizon website, tried to activate the device under BYOD, and get same "this device is locked and will not work on the verizon network. contact your carrier to unlock it"
But the phone is Verizon phone.... then SOMETHING HIT ME.
I went to Verizon Prepaid then tried activating it. AND IT WORKS.
TLDR:
FOLKS. For some lucky slickdealers, Someone at Walmart distribution center messed up big time and sent us the prepaid Verizon phone instead of postpaid Verizon phone!
And because Walmart cannot activate these phones on Postpaid plan, the service plan contract and the phone payment plan that you signed cannot be established. I.E. You have a free phone, no strings attached.
So the only option at this point is to activate the phone at Verizon prepaid (since the phone cannot be activated on postpaid plan), keep the service on for 60 days, wait for the device to unlock.
Or I guess you can also use it as a trade in device.
I hope this helps clear up all the confusion on this thread.

I tried to open a new postpaid connection with verizon, but the rep says device is locked and it can't be activated. Verizon rep suggested me to return phone to walmart and buy one from verizon(marketing gimmick?). I did chat with walmart before I checked with verizon rep, and walmart also suggested me to return it. I'm not sure whether walmart chat rep can put a lock on this device activatio, because of which verizon rep was unable to start a plan for me? Not sure what could have gone wrong.
If your case is like mine, you probably have the Verizon Prepaid device. Activate on Verizon prepaid for now, wait 60 days, at which point the phone unlocks then you can do whatever you want. Cheers!

Has anyone had issues making an new account with ATT to purchase their phones? I can't get any answers from ATT. I initially thought that it was due to my frozen credit but they are thawed at this moment. All 3 credit bureaus.

The error message says. " we weren't able to approve your application. To learn more, call At&T at 8003310500"

Yeah, I forgot about taxes. How much am I supposed to pay initially? Walmart shows the order total that is exactly the sales tax of the phone. Is this the correct amount I should pay now? I just wanted to make sure I am doing it right. And I think I will be billed as follows from AT&T.

$10.00/mo for 36 months, 0% APR
$60.99/mo for Value Plus VL
$35.00 Activation fee

I checked my (5) Chase CC's with their Chase Offers. Unfortunately none has the AT&T offer. $75 CB on $100 is damn good!

You forgot about taxes and you are mostly there.

Some other things you could consider, the phone would work for Att based mvno like Redpocket, cricket etc without unlocking so you don't need to pay $60*2 months to Att while you wait for unlock. Instead of paying $120+ taxes to Att, pay $20 pm to those prepaid Mvno and use their services.

There is chase cashback too, see if it works. Expires tomorrow.

What is this deposit for? And are they asking for it after you activated the phone or opening a new line altogether?
i ower for an iphone 16 plus and then for the 1st s24 ultra, so they wanted money down for the second s24 ultra, so I only owe ATT 232 for the 2nd s24 ultra

How did you order 2 phones at the same time? Two separate orders with two separate emails/accounts?

This appears to be the case on mine as well. So we owe no money on these devices? Just activate them on the verizon prepaid and keep service for 2 months to unlock them in 60 days?

I just activated prepaid esim and it worked just fine. I guess we dont owe any as there was no active postpaid account/line with verizon.

It worked just fine. Thanks. Do we need to keep the prepaid connection active for 2 months? or canceling it immediately is sufficient to triggar the unlock timer?

The line is cancelled under buyer's remorse, not regular mid cycle cancellation (for which you will have to pay the whole amount). You might get charged full in the bill but you should be able to chat with CS to void it, mention buyer remorse cancellation when you do. Also see the wiki of OnePlus nord thread I have in pinned comment.
I was able to use the "Don't recognize this charge" for the $35 activation fee and chatted with CS to discuss the bill. Let them know it was canceled within 3 days of activation and it should've fallen under the buyer's remorse policy. They then mentioned there's already a pending credit on my account and that the original bill was generated prior to the cancellation. Anyway, to whoever who asked, my final bill is going to be approx $8. Think about 2 or so days of being active. Thanks for the help and guidance on this!

walmart is collecting tax right now during the order. remaining (the phone order value) will be charged by ATT which will 360 in this case at 10 pm * 36 months.

Although Chase says not valid on device but we will see in few days as the charge showed up as ATT Bill payment.

And for unlocking ATT, once you activate the device on this phone; make some calls or something so this device shows up on your online account.

Pay off your phone and wait few hours or days for it to reflect in the backend and not just online account.

Then move sim to another BYOD phone and make some calls. Wait for this device to show up in your online account.

Then go to ATT unlock page and request unlock as NON ATT User. They will send automated email, confirm that. Wait some time for success email.

Cancel line and wait for final charges. Call and get waiver under buyer remorse for those charges.

My s24+ verizon arrived today with no sim.
IMEI check did not work on verizon.
Prepaid esim did not work for me I got a payment denied and an email linking a different order.

I was able to create an account on the my verizon app and use the bring device option. Setup account again and it gave me a $0 order and activated an esim. I now have used this info to create a my verizon account and when I look at my dashboard home it shows "Samsung Galaxy S24+, Onyx Black, 256 GB

100% paid off" under my name and device.

Service is active and working. May give it overnight and then try to port out to usmobile or somewhere tomorrow or Monday to cancel out the account immediately within the first 3 days.

Don't know if this will work but just sharing. Good luck.

edit, and then my prepaid order goes through about 30 minutes later. oh well. it appears active on postpaid, shows device fully paid off, so I'll roll the dice and cancel to.orrow and see if it unlocks in 60 days.
