ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.
0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.
1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.
Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.
1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

06.01.25: Successful port-out to Tello ($8) to cancel the Verizon line.
08.01.25: Automatic unlocking??
- Paid off phone yesterday afternoon
- SIM swapped today (not quite 24 hours later)
- Did unlock with IEMI and separate email (not sure if separate email matters?)
- Note that you need to insert the non-ATT SIM to get prompted to enter the unlock code
- Phone unlocked
After that, I downloaded latest U1/XAA firmware from samfw and used SamFw tool to Odin flash (since I already had it setup from my S21). Took a bit over 7 minutes to flash, then on first boot before I could get anywhere with new device setup it wanted to restart for carrier firmware (total wireless/TFN in my case). After that went through normal setup and smart switch. Signed into samsung via my S21 QR code. The only other things I did were to apply updates from ATT before getting to the Android 15/UI 7 update just in case that update would make flashing harder.
Next step is to cancel!
mine was deliv 29th, device activated yesterday, still no proper dpp info in verizon accnt (shows some garbled $0 dpp in account, line is eligible for upgrade again)
1. Paid off phone 06/01/2025
2. able to activate the phone and saw it via the att wireless same date above.
3. Pop out the sim from s24 ultra and pop in the Motorola unlocked phone and saw it showed up unknown phone on the ATT after pay off the phone same date above (1 hour later)
4. Go to unlock page and could not unlock .
Do you guys have any recommendations?
What are doing in step 4? What error did you get back?

Are you seeing the same error message couple of days after paying off the phone?
What about the cases when people (who are not existing Verizon customer) didn't get any email from verizon or Walmart didn't ask about verizon info during order? If we are able to get it on a new Verizon and it says nothing owed we should be in the clear, right?
I waited til it got here (ATT version), made a new user and registered with them, got the phone working with the new number I had elected for on walmart and then paid it off using the mobile app because it wasn't showing up on the website online. It stated that it was "fulfilled" after about 20 minutes and then I swapped the sim into my s21 ultra that I'm upgrading from.
I turned off the verizon esim in my s21 ultra and downloaded the app and made sure it was registered with the new number on ATT. My s24U I left connected to wifi, but no sim in it. Then I checked that my s21 ultra is what was showing on myATT and the website, and it was, so I tried to unlock the s24 ultra, but it said I hadn't met the conditions yet. So, I waited until this morning and tried again, and this time it went through and I unlocked it by putting an old unused sim card from a verizon mvno into it and entering the code ATT gave me.
Then I cancelled my service with ATT while it still showed my S21 ultra as the phone registered with it.
That was the only ridiculous part. I had to sit on chat for 30 minutes while the rep tried everything to keep me on ATT. But he confirmed that it's closed and now I just have to wait and see how much I'm paying...
I did ask for the activation fee to be waived but he didn't seem to understand very well, or was playing dumb, so I have no idea. He simply said that it would be "prorated", but I assume that will just be the monthly portion, not any fees.
Anyways, super glad to not have to wait two months to start using the phone!

Make sure the line is disconnected for good, i.e the line is not shown in the app,.you can't make calls etc. CS reps are trained to disconnect at the end of the month, that's not something you want.
Ah, I think they were able to get it unlocked as like all who went with ATT but they can confirm.
Go to Unlock page and enter IMEI

0.) UnFreeze Credit
1.) Order
2.) Pay off in full via website
3.) Activate it on ATT with provided SIM. Make sure shows up onMyatt app/web.
4.) Put that ATT SIM in another phone. Reboot. Make some calls. Make sure this phone is showing up in myatt app/web. May have to use incognito (cache!)
5.) Go to Unlock portal, choose not an ATT customer, use IMEI of new phone and submit unlock request. Only do once.
6.) Once unlocked. Cancel the line. Probably have to call in
7.) Make sure is cancelled now - i.e. line not shown in app / can't make calls. CS reps trained to disconnect at end of month, which is less good
8.) If cancelled it within 3 days of order, no activation fee.
i. Otherwise myatt app/website, "don't recognize this fee" under activation. Can get rid of. Instant/Automatic
