See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.
I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

From my past experiences, if you port out within 3 days, the final bill auto adjusts for the activation fee credit and prorated charges.
Does that happen after getting your first bill? I placed my order the 30th of last month, line activated the 31st and I canceled the 2nd of June (still canceled within three days) by porting line out, now I got my first bill last night but on top of charging me the activation fee they're also charging me a full month of service (Jun 2 - Jul 1) $60.99 + ~$17 of taxes and fees, and of course prorated charges for the days of May 31 to Jun 1. Do I need to contact Att to get this adjusted?

I've gone through this thread as best I can but I have some questions. I am waiting for my phone today but I already setup the At&t online account and paid off the phone. When I logged back in there is a link that says "unlock available". I haven't clicked on it yet but does it mean I can unlock the phone now? Did any one get a link like this after they paid off the phone? I won't do anything until I get the phone but I was just curious.

No, if you try that the page will tell you it's not available because it hasn't been 60 days of service yet. That's why you need to wait until your phone arrives make some calls and later on request the unlock as a non att customer AFTER doing swapping your att sim card to another device

May 30th - ordered phone on Walmart
June 2nd - got the phone and paid it off on ATT account. tried the sim swap method pass midnight for the unlock request but failed.
June 4th - after waiting 24 hours, re-submitted the unlock request and got the unlock code in about 20 minutes.

now trying to cancel the line, but agent is being an ass. he forced me to call the loyalty team to cancel. he said this is required to cancel the line but i think he simply doesn't want to cancel for me.

Chat with another agent. I have done these many times with ATT over chat so they can and will cancel the account over chat.

There is no way to escalate the unlock portal processing but you can chat with CS and tell them unlock portal is stuck and they might hand you the unlock code. Make up a legit reason like using overseas SIM etc.

There is no exact timeline, it depends on what ATT set the cycle start time in a month is for you but you should get it in couple of weeks for sure.

That link is generic, wait till the phone arrives, activate, SIM swap and then request unlock.

Yes, please chat with CS. Be polite but persistent about apply the credit to the current bill, not the next one. edit: Also mention the line was cancelled under buyer's remorse.

i just canceled the account over the phone. he said i will still be billed the full amount (no prorated charges), but i told him to make the cancellation effective immediately. then boom, im disconnected lol. he probably got pissed because i told him that its nonsense i would be charged full amount despite cancelling today. lets hope i only get a prorated amount.

I'd say it is totally BS from your CSR. My CSR I spoke with this morning was only trying once to retain me from cancelling. After I politely persisted, he processed everything like a breeze. Line cancellation email sent out immediately. Account portal shows the phone line has been cancelled. The only thing he wasn't able to confirm is whether the $35 activation fees will be refunded since the phone line is cancelled within 3 days of activation.

This is the same experience I had even after requesting to be transferred to a supervisor, and very conveniently loyalty department is only available over the phone and already closed for the day when I contacted them. After wasting more than hour dealing with two agents I just decided to port out the line

The disconnection actually means that line is gone for sure so you should be good. Now when the bill comes get the activation fee voided instantly and chat with CS to get rid of the other fees.

I'm in the same boat with Vzn. shipped out of Chino on 6/2, expecting delivery 6/6. No account registration emails from Vzn. I'm hoping this means they skipped scan so I'm getting a free phone. Worst case, the registration email comes closer to delivery date so I can payoff and cancel the line with a smaller prorated bill.

Which warehouse is yours coming from?
I am concerned I will never get the registeration email, I know people are saying free phone, but sounds to good to be true...

How did you check which warehouse?

No it will be an ATT locked phone so you can activate on any ATT account (including a new one you can open at a store) and then do SIM swap to unlock.
wow , I did not know this was a thing. A simple missed scan results in a free phone.. feels too good to be true or there must be some catch. Adding a new ATT sim isnt a problem because I have 12 lines with AT&T on a biz account .
