See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.
I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

FEDEX stole my phone. The driver attempted to deliver on Monday but nobody was home so he left a door tag that indicated the he would attempt another. 4 days later the driver has not tried to re-deliver. The status of the package remains unknown on the FEDEX website.

If you do confirm with any carrier that their nothing owed on the device it will not go back to an amount owed. At that point cancelling the account would dissociate you from any responsibilities other than paying the final bill.
sorry to trouble

I have been with ATT postpaid for many years

I bought this phone with upgrade, and I am not going to cancel the line

Can I pay off and submit the request simply without this swap method?

I believe ATT has knonw this phone is a ATT-branded phone, since Samsung phone locking is different than iPhone Reseller Flex.

Thanks

The phone has to be activated and connected to the network before you can unlock it. No other way around it.

Not stolen but failed delivery. Walmart requires direct signature and they refused to re route to walgreens or fedex location for me to pick up.
My driver made two failed attempts and put a doortag photo with number in online status. Well, there was never a doortag on my door and that image did not include any background image to prove an actual attempt was made. So, Id doubt delivery was attempted in my case and I registered a formal complaint with fedex support. The third and last attempt, a different person was delivering and that person left it in my locker box of the apartment.

Yes!

I think your account has to have been open for at least 60 days for you to be able to unlock it right away though?

I paid my S24 Ultra off with AT&T while in transit. When it got here, I used the new SIM in the box. Went online and activated.

Then I requested an unlock through the AT&T app on my main phone for that line. Instantly approved. (You could also do this on the AT&T web site if you don't have the app loaded.)

They will send you a 10+ digit code via text and email. You need to put in a non-AT&T SIM and re-start the phone. The phone will prompt for the code to unlock one time only.

I didn't have to wait, do SIM swap, etc. No problems. It may depend on the timing of the payoff though? I paid mine 2-3 days before the phone even arrived.

I keep an extra AT&T line with no contract phone for these deals. Pixel 9 Pro XL, etc. Worth the extra cost.

Good luck!

My delivery said signature required, but the driver just dropped it on my doorstep and left. Didn't even ring the doorbell. Luckily I was home waiting at the time.

how long is it taking everyone to be able to put in the unlock request after paying it off with ATT? I've waited 24 hours and it still says I need to pay it off.
Only took about 8 hours for me.

Yeah, you can do as upgrade to your line and pay off. Whether ATT gives you the unlock code thats up in the air. Sometime people get it from app/CS but technically you need to wait for 60 days before requesting unlock. So I'd try unlock portal and then CS rep if it does not work but you might have to wait for 60 days

If you don't have account details or emails from ATT you can't setup one yet and pay off so you will have to wait for the phone/email to arrive.

Been waiting a while for a good deal on the S24U to pull the trigger, mainly for the camera (upgrading from Pixel 6A). I was a bit nervous about going through this whole process, but success story here!

6/3 2:30PM: Placed order (AT&T)
6/4 1:30PM: Received phone (no free phone for me 😥)
6/4 3:00PM: Paid off
6/4 11:00PM: Unlocked via SIM swap (made sure to complete all updates first)
6/5 7:30AM: Cancelled via chat (weirdly, the agent said there was a second number/line reserved on the account that was not activated). I took screenshots of the convo, but got an e-mail immediately after indicating that the phone number was no longer associated with my user ID.

is S24U better than iphone16 pro?

Hello all question. I ordered this on 5/27 for Verizon and got delivery on 5/31. Immediately tried to go to the Verizon store to pay off (I think I got a bad rep and they gave me run around and told me to call some number but was able to pay the $360). Then I went back into the store and tried to cancel the line, but they said that I had to call the customer service number to cancel the line. I then called to cancel the line and then the representative told me that my final bill was going to be $90 with $35 activation fee and then the additional fees were for the remaining days of service. Is this accurate? They were saying the billing goes through June 28 even though I canceled the phone immediately after all that on 5/31. Thank you in advance.
