See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone.While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.
I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

Can someone with the Verizon model who has activated do me a favor? When you go to settings > connections > more connection settings > do you see an area that says "network lock status" of "locked" or something similar at the bottom? I do not and I have seen this on every other Samsung phone I've unlocked (even before it was unlocked). This has me a bit worried that something is wrong in the back end and it's not started the countdown timer (I could be wrong though). Can any other Verizon users confirm or deny they see this? Thanks

Shipped via onTrac, no movement for 3 days now, contacted Ontrac and they said :

I apologize that you did not receive this package by its expected delivery date, and I am starting an investigation with this facility for the delay. If you do not have a tracking update or your package within 2 business days, please contact your seller for further assistance.

So I contacted Walmart and here is what they have to say

"Thank you for your patience. After investigating the matter further, I have determined that the package may have been lost in transit due to unforeseen logistical challenges. In rare cases, packages can encounter issues such as misrouting, damaged labels, or errors in the shipping process, which can result in their loss or delay."

There are some ways to remove ATT apps but that involves ADP and not particularly easier than the flashing instructions. The flashing instructions are simple and if you mess up you can always flash back the original art image so there's not much risk.
But I don't understand the flashing instructions. That's the point. Probably should leave well enough alone.

If you don't know what you are doing, you'd better be not doing it.

Ok thank you very much for all your help! I think I'm set with the phone unlocked but I chatted to cancel, they did it asking for an effective date I said immediately, they asked again for a date later and I just picked today. They confirmed no charges and no balance due (was within 3 days) but I didn't get any email confirmation and the chat disconnected accidentally but they said they were going to text me something which they haven't sent. When I asked how I could see its cancelled they just said there is no plan attached and that I should be able to see that to. I'm guessing this person just doesn't know exactly how it works, and I will still get a prorated bill that I will need to chat again about?

If you can still make calls/text in the phone then it's not discontinued. Also I hope you were not talking to a bot before

Walmart said they will provide a refund , I have to contact them 24 hours after the official delivery date has ended. They cannot guarantee a replacement.
Interesting I just got a couple of emails from Vzn welcoming me to my new S24U and how to download their app. So it's clear a phone was scanned in and account activated with Verizon. But I'm unable to register the number from the order agreement. My phone is still stuck with Ontrac originating warehouse with no movement at all. Wonder how this is gonna go if the phone is lost but Vzn still thinks I'm on the hook for the remaining balance.

Yes I wasn't talking to a bot. Just talked to a 2nd live agent who said it is cancelled and the sim doesnt work. But you seem like you have been around the block with this before. Have you ever experienced anyone not having to actually contest the prorated bill/activation charges?

Activation charges can be voided instantly, see the wiki one plus Nord thread in my pinned comment. As per other charges, I have seen a very few cases where they receive close to 0 bills, in most cases you have to chat again when the final bill comes.

Ok gotcha. Yeah I dont know, I definitely didn't contest the activation charges since there was nothing to contest and haven't seen any balance or bill but I can confirm in a few days. The 2nd agent just confirmed canceled, no balance due and no charges. I paid the taxes to walmart and the $432 for the s24 ultra to att yesterday.

I ordered the Verizon model. It was supposed to arrive by tomorrow but shipped today from Davenport through FedEx. Delivery date now showing Saturday but will likely be later as it was shipped through Home Delivery. 😒

My delivery said signature required, but the driver just dropped it on my doorstep and left. Didn't even ring the doorbell. Luckily I was home waiting at the time.
yea, i am not buying that there was delivery attempt. online status provied photo of doortag (two separate for each day) and i did not find any door tag at my door. and both the photos were close up of doortag number without any background. just BS from fedex, that's all.

Things worked great, thanks!

* Ordered phone
* Phone shipped
* Created ATT account, after the email
* Phone delivered
* Paid the phone
* Installed all system updates (check security patch level to be May'25 or later)
* Wait for mid-night
* Put the unlock request
* Request got approved in 5mins
* Unlock successful
* Closed the account

Next step is to remove the ATT bloatware

This is probably it. I'm still waiting on mine as well and the ontrac folks are dumb as a rock.

Anyone waited more than 12 hours for the unlock code from ATT? I tried the first night past midnight after getting my phone but was rejected after 5 mins. I waited 24 hours to try again and its been more than 12 hours and shows 'in-progress' still.

I got a "we couldn't approve your account call blah blah" message so I called the number and they couldn't replicate the Walmart deal on the phone. Anyone faced the same problem? I'm a new ATT user.
