Ryzen 7520u is based off zen 2 architecture and for the ones who don't know it's OLD! 2019 was when it was first released then amd has rebranded it multiple times! Not a good value imo

Based on your expertise, what other 17", FHD IPS with expandable RAM, laptops can you suggest in this price range?

🤦 if it's zen 2 then why is it on a 6nm node process and not the older 7nm??? It IS zen 2 but its on a smaller node process, so its more efficient and its running DDR5 and rdna graphics. I'm only putting my 2 cents in here because I'm tired of the extreme ignorance in people.

Having said that because everyone here seems to be ignorant of how CPUs are made. This is zen 3. Hence the 3rd digit in the name even though it seems like it's ryzen 7000 which makes it seem like it should be zen 4. Because of that it's NOT the same as ryzen 5000. People think AMD is literally recycling old chips from 2019 lol 😆 So the older chips are made on a process node of a certain size, using the term nm or nanometers. It just means the smaller the NM the more transistors are crammed into a single space and more processing power. What AMD figured out, was, they took the design of zen 2 and zen3 and shrunk them onto the newer smaller more condensed process node, it makes them more energy efficient than their previous larger process node cousins, and then they get paired with faster more modern memory like DDR5 instead of DDR4. I think it's smart, zen 2 and zen 3 is great actually still, they are designed very well. As long as they are reasonably priced they are not a bad chip

These are 7nm rebadged ryzen 5625u, exact same specs and silicon size.

"The AMD Ryzen 5 7430U is a processor for thin and light laptops based on the Cezanne generation. It is part of the second "Barcelo" refresh and was announced in Q4 2023. The processor is identical to the old AMD Ryzen 5 5625U.

Look on eBay for used(around $160-$250) HP ProBook 445 and HP elite book 855 if you want an amazing business class build on these old ryzen 5000 series chips, they're exactly the same chip as the 7430u(ryzen5625) and 7530u(ryzen 5675u), I brought a couple last week after researching all of this. Most of the 7000 series are just rebadged 5000 series. The build quality on the $1000-1500 Elitebooks in 2020-2022 is much higher than these low tier consumer grade pc, running cooler and allowing the CPU to boost higher/longer. I'm not saying this is a bad deal, but these CPUs have been around some time, so there are more options.
