OK deal if you are in the 40v platform, but the 60v 18" at just a bit less with a 5ah battery and fast 6amp charger is a much better bang for your buck

I think that sale definitely muddies the waters, and merely following the prices to bigger numbers can really rob you of the joy of owning a saw this size with instantaneous stop-and-start for limbing, alongside a larger saw for more, larger, cuts. Bigger numbers sell better, of course. And these are two different battery platforms.

I was a bit surprised at how many people in that thread felt the 60V 5.0Ah battery was not big enough for them ... that does make me wonder if there's something going on with the power consumption of Greenworks "Pro" vs. non-Pro saws. But then again, I'm using my gas saw to buck 18" logs.

I've bought several GW kits all with batteries and chargers, so I have an 8ah, 5ah, 4ah and a 2.5 ah. Two 6 amp chargers and two 2 amp chargers. I could power the 18" saw for quite a bit of sawing if needed.
Having said all of this I have a Stihl MS 271 with a 20" bar for my large cutting jobs. The 18" GW saw replaces my small Stihl with a 16" bar.
I think the GW 18 will be ideal for small 1 hour jobs or simply topping or limbing a larger tree
