Are you sure about them not being efficient? I've compared them side by side with the klipsch and both seem pretty equally efficient. Both 590 and klipsch rp8000f reach insane levels of volume just running off a tiny little aiyima a07 amplifier which uses 5w at idle, and just a couple watts more at tv listening levels. (I think it's just a stereo version of the tpa 3255 fosi you mentioned.)

https://www.amazon.com/AIYIMA-A07...B08CJZGT6H
I run the one with bluetooth currently, but I also have the one without bt.

The 530's are less efficient than the 590's though, from what I can tell.

There's no way I would go to a soundbar, I could just use the built in speakers in my sony tv if that's all I wanted, the built in speakers are pretty good for what they are.

What I'm hoping for in the future is a surround receiver based on whatever the next generation tpa3255 chips are, something hopefully with a lower noise floor but a similar very low idle draw.

Yes in general they are less efficient.
A caveat here, the definition of optimal performance, that will vary from person to person.

If you're content with the 3255, why not continue using it, that's what pre outs are for?

Especially since you mentioned affordability & low power draw are a high priority.
The receiver you're hoping for will favor those two.

That's a bit of a contradicting opinion.

I would take that challenge.

For $50 more I would take these Revels Concerta2s, for any content you use especially music.

For me I would even take them over those R3s especially for the price difference.

You couldn't paay me to put big white speakers in my living room. This fake walnut actually looks good though. I have the 504c2 in walnut.

For me I'll take the superior sound, no finish will change that!

IF it was a big deal you could wrap them but I actually like white.

I am in no way claiming to get optimal performance from these little cheap amps or any of my speakers, just the low wattage vs price and performance seems hard to beat. Life is a compromise living off grid.

I have multiple receivers with pre-outs but even when you use external amps they're still not efficient. It's like none are actually turning off the amp section and all channels amps are there just burning power at idle for no reason.

I'm not content with the 3255's, too much noise floor and not as good as a top of the line receiver, but the super low idle consumption allows me to leave it on 24/7 and use it all day for both laptop via BT and TV via analog without ever having to touch a control or mess with it, don't even have to turn it on or off so the convenience is perfect.

When it's silent in my room I hear all the snap crackles and pops of the high noise floor on this amp and just hope the next generation of them will come along and be better.

Again good luck with that. A top on the line receiver or good amp won't be cheap and draw much power!

I still think you're a good candidate for that soundbar I suggested.

It's affordable, draws little power and sounds WAY BETTER than your tv speakers.
They get good reviews for a reason. Often they say it rivals traditional setups.

If I never cranked music or movies that loud a soundbar would work, but I often like it very loud so I can hear my music anywhere in the house or in the yard which is why I went the route of multiple ridiculously big speakers.

I bought 6x 590's (3 pair) when they were clearing them out cheap at the last minute in the hopes that one day I could have them on all the main channels including center and 4x 530's (2 pair) to use for the height channels in surround mode. I'll need to expand my solar to use them, but I grabbed them while the price was right.

I didn't start out with the plan to buy that many speakers, but they kept marking them down and I kept getting coupons from jbl each time they arrived with damaged boxes so I ended up with several 590's for the price of 530's, and 530's for like 100 a pair.

Keep in mind, that belief is for people that go mainly by measurements.

If you go by audibly, their centers are very well liked.
Here is just one example, that matches well with this model in my experience.

This is definitely one thing I will agree with you on. Wish that guy would just leave youtube. "They test poorly in this weird ass situation...." Your own ear is the true test. With that said, I have the 8060 ii and love them. Like others have said, great for ht and ok for music. B+/A- for ht, probably a B- for music.

Well said, the 8000/8060's are very good for HT but mediocre for music. I had both 8000's, 8060's, etc..... Also comical that a internet reviewer is saying th 504/450C centers can't be heard off center in "testing"....There is "testing" and then there is real world application.. One of the best, clearest, most pronounced, most dynamic centers I have had for under $1,000.... So good that I run two of them in seperate systems

I love my 504. My room is only 15-18 ft deep so not huge. I run 3 chairs wide and have had 0 complaints. I do think my issues with music is mostly my receiever. I had an older onkyo that had a higher watt/channel rating that sounded great with 2.0 channel music. Bought a cheap onkyo 8060, and immediately could tell the output was weak and have to turn on the subs. Will probably try the onkyo rz-50 if that goes back down to 700 ish and see if that fixes the issue.

Any reason why they only sound ok with music?

Sure, they have lousy imaging and a very shallow sound field.. Why? Because they just can't do the mid range properly using a combined horn.. so you get great highs and boomy lows but the mid frequencies which is key in music just sounds "cold" & "OFF" to put it in words, obviously you would need to compare it to a true 3 way speaker with great mids to really understand as words can't describe it completely. In Klipsch's higher end heritage lines all this goes away as they use three way systems with real good separate mid drivers that make some of there higher end line really shine with music and HT but they are severely over priced..

This falls under the same argument as the testing/measurement sound.
Sound is sound whether it's music or movies, there is no separate definition for each.

The reason people make this different distinction, in basic terms listening to music is more critical listening so we perceive it differently.
You will find that this opens up the whole measurement/testing argument all over again!

Ultimately you determine whether in works for you with music or not by listening!
